Re: firefox crashing
happened twice in as many days now, had a new upgrade pop up today, will try that.
Thanks.
Thanks.
Re: firefox crashing
Haven't seen any FF crashes recently, but I did get an update a couple of days ago - does it automatically.
Edit: I still think it's head and shoulders above IE.

Re: firefox crashing
I have always been a FF fan. Very anti IE.
However, the version I am on now
I only have a small memory on my LT & I think this version must be very memory hungry compared to previous versions.
Pages VERY slow to load, get Adobe script stopped on pages message - due to low memory.
Thinking of going back a version or two if it does not improve....
However, the version I am on now
has not impressed me at all.Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1.1) Gecko/20090715 Firefox/3.0.10

Re: firefox crashing
I downloaded 3.5 recently. Had a few crashes advising me to delete some topics that might be causing it. Having done so it crashed again . Got a lovely little message that said" Oops this is embarrassing, can you close browser and try again" So it appears to be a fairly common experience .Other than that it appears to be much faster and generally I am quite happy with it.

Re: firefox crashing
I think the memory could be the issue... Possibly. I'm sure the more tech savvy out there can add to it but there was a letter in the Database (Bangkok Post supplement) a few weeks back with a guy addressing browser crashes. It had tips on increasing virtual memory. I'll see if I can dig it up, meanwhile either Google: "database+wanda sloane+virtual memory" or just Firefox crashing+virtual memory" and see what it throws up.
Chok dee.

Re: firefox crashing
Cheers Alan well worth a try for certain!!!
Well checked virtual memory & it was less than the minimum XP recommends which would not be a good position to in I feel. So I upped it & restarted. FF certainly started quicker this time....will keep you updated.
Thanks for the hint Alan - dumb of me not to think of it. In my defence I did think I had it set to "automatic by XP"....

Re: firefox crashing
I updated to the new version....sofa-so-good.
Thanks.
Thanks.
Re: firefox crashing
I had the crashing problem with the old version. Now that I've updated to the latest the problem has disappeared. I still can't view pdf's within firefox though. Pages in the new version are still slow to load but I think that's a problem with Maxnet rather than firefox.
Re: firefox crashing
Lee search for an "Add on" to Firefox called...PDF Download. It allows you different ways of viewing PDF files either on line, or downloading - it gives you options every time you click on a PDF on the net...
Re: firefox crashing
I've already installed that plugin but I still get an error "Cannot use Adobe reader to view PDF in your web browser", it works in IE though.
Re: firefox crashing
You could give this a go Lee..
orTry the following
1. Close FireFox
2. Copy nppdf32.dll from the adobe reader dir (with default install, It should be found here: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Reader\Browser)
3. Paste it in your plug-ins dir, overwriting the one that is there (with default install, the plug-in dir is here: C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\plugins
4. restart Firefox and try it out
This is how I fixed it.
Open firefox browser/goto tools/click options/goto applications tab.
In my browser applications, adobe 7.0 was the first thing listed and the action was set as "always ask". I clicked on the action of adobe 7.0 and set it to "Use adobe acrobat 8.1". Saved it, and it now opens pdfs.
Re: firefox crashing
Thanks Bob, the second one worked. It doesn't actually open in the browser but opens in Acrobat itself which is good enough.
Thanks for your help.

Re: firefox crashing
My suggestion would be to delete Adobe Reader altogether, and install the Foxit Reader (much, much smaller and more nimble than Adobe - 50 million users), plus the Foxit plugin for FF.

Re: firefox crashing
Well forget that memory thing. I now believe it is a case of some programmes just not getting along with Firefox. Firefox 3.5.1 has been buzzing along for me with nare a crash since it updated a few days back. Tonight after downloading this week's Emmerdale... I mean a macho action movie, I opened Nero 9 to burn it to DVD and Firefox crashed. I tried it up to 10 times and it crashed every time. I opened that dreaded Internet Explorer thing and it didn't have a problem with Nero 9 and I burned my DVD. So people, if Firefox consistently goes down on you have a look at what other programmes you have running. Maybe Firefox is a bit insecure and doesn't like you to run other programmes when SHE is running...
