New York, D2, CU etc. What next?
New York, D2, CU etc. What next?
Today I noticed the nightclub venue opposite Centara Hotel has changed hands yet again. Believe it or not Its had 4-5 name changes over the past couple of years, so I guess it's time for another one. LOL I'm not sure I'd be brave enough to invest in it after its past history.
They're going to town on the construction work from what I can see, I only hope it has more success than the others did.

Yes, it puzzled me as well Lee. Oh well looks like there will be a car park for the Plaza & probably the Dwang Dang for quite some time into the future...

Perhaps it's going to be the new club house for the Udon Expats Club.

Perhaps the format was wrong. Like all the others before it.
The new owner should have a look around Udon and see what works, and improve on it.
It's in a prime location, with ample car parking.
I'm sure one day, someone will come along and get the formula right.

Speaking of new disco's, Mambo's open again with a new name 'Lim Seum' ลิมซึม. I'm not sure if same owners or not but its a completely different format to before. It's more a trendy live music pub venue now with comfortable seating, ambient lighting, pool tables and full volume music. I guess it's the in trend place to go at the moment until the above place opens. I must admit I liked Mambo as it was before with a mix of coyote girls and live music.

The adverts outside for staff refer to it as "Brothers Club"

I would not have thought there were enough African-Americans in Udon to support a club....

Re: New York, D2, CU etc. What next?
That would be 'Brudders'.....
They (Thais) do choose some odd names for things.....even there own 'Nicks', i suspect they thought it was a bit 'Hip-Hop and a bit 'Street' in' choosing 'Brothers'.......but sounds naff imo, but don't really matter too mutt, as it will be changed again no doubt.
Better choices...Something like 'Element'....or 'Divines', or 'Heaven' or even The wheel tappers and Shunters club.

Re: New York, D2, CU etc. What next?
When D2 closed and the workmen moved in I,initially, thought that they were going to pull it down and start with the next phase of Central Plaza.
I remember when I first came to Udon in 2004 it was a Volvo garage with about three dated models inside and no customers.
As regards Lim Seum,I believe that the Napalai has a new manager who is planning a few changes to the hotel. The restaurant now has a nightime buffet for 89 baht which is quite popular.

Just when I thought our chance had passed, you go and save the best for last.

It's actually called Rhythm & Bar, or Lim Seum & Bar in Thai accent.trubrit wrote:The adverts outside for staff refer to it as "Brothers Club"

Is that the old Volvo showroom opposite the Compleck or has my inertial navigation suffered a gyro topple?lee wrote:Today I noticed the nightclub venue opposite Centara Hotel has changed hands yet again. It most certainly is Fawn.....even many moons ago i remember seeing a few dusty volvos sitting in there ...nothing really moved, i guess the 'die hard' Volvo buyers just dried up...and that lead them to go ti*s-up....you would of have to have been 'well off' to be driving a shiny new Volvo in Sleepy Udon years ago.
So your inertial nav is A-OK Captain......

It wasn't so long ago that there were Volvos in there, though.

Actually not so long BM. When I first came to Udon in 2002 I had my V70T serviced there until 04 when I sold it.All that time though they never had a new car on show, just a second hand white one which I understood once belonged to the dealership owner, Khun Hanchai, who also owned the property. That disappeared when it became its first incarnation as a night club.beer monkey wrote:Been a few years good buddy....

I would have thought in the D2 format it would have been a goer, it seemed to be capably operated, it had some serious money behind it, and I thought the format would have appealed to the Thai market, so I was very surprised that it didn't last. Hats off then to Tawang deng, it just seems to keep on going when its more up market neighbor just keeps on falling over.
I guess its all about pricing, TD does seem to offer a good night out for reasonable money.

Re: New York, D2, CU etc. What next?
The place seems to be a bit of a fashion statement. In all its guises it has been packed by Thais for the first few weeks. The 'Place" to be seen, but once the novelty wears off it collapses. I have been in there a few times and for its standard I didn't think it to be expensive. However against it , for me anyway. The very loud music making conversation impossible, and the low stools and tables for sitting. There never were many Farang in there when I visited.fatbas***d wrote:I would have thought in the D2 format it would have been a goer, it seemed to be capably operated, it had some serious money behind it, and I thought the format would have appealed to the Thai market, so I was very surprised that it didn't last. Lee. I must admit I didn't see any illuminated signs for Johnny Walker when I was there last Thursday but the sign written boards in red and black for staff wanted definitely said " Brothers Club" in English as well as Thai.

Re: New York, D2, CU etc. What next?
agree, also thought D2 would work, IF, it made it pass the see/be seen genre. it was quite a step up from it's former NY NY. which i thought was boring and overpriced. D2 seemed to have the backing and some business sense behind it.
now, the best thing for it to be is demolished, and start construction of that big arse parking garage, that we all hope is in the game plan. though i think Central is smartly playing the wait and see game.

Re: New York, D2, CU etc. What next?
that site has never been a success . as a volvo dealers or any of its past lives as night club strock watering hole . will brothers make it , well i certainly would not put any money on it . far , far too many choices for the thais that can afford to be seen , to spend mummy and daddys money in . meanwhile , the peasants flock to deang dang nearly every night of the week .
