Hi guys can you tell me do thai people have free medical in goverement hospitals and clinics, my wife s mother tells her her stepfather has had to have ex-rays and she needs the cash to pay for it, i understood there was some sort of medical assistance for thais.

depends, most poor/which is most/qualify for '30 baht plan', though gov't hosp accepts at their will, and keep cost to the minimum. xrays themselves are very cheap, less than 100 baht each, so if being quoted a higher rate, run.......very fast. but for a couple xrays, for an obviously problem, it should be covered under this plan, if not, a mere couple hundred but should cover any expense. the 100 baht figure is for private/profit hospital. i know, just had 6 done at private hospital. and these were high tech, well almost, as in conjuction with another procedure involving chemicals.

I am getting a feeling that more than a few hundred baht is being asked for......as they wouldn't have to ask if thats what they where paying as that amount would be in their pockets...

Thanks for clearing that up ,my wifes mother asked for bht 2000 it does not affect me as my wife sends cash from her own earnings but i dont like any lies ,

OK Not an extortionate amount, add a little travel for several people, + a few minor expenses... etc....I was expecting worse i must admit.
