Brits Too Lazy To Have Sex, Let Alone Run For a Bus
Re: Brits Too Lazy To Have Sex, Let Alone Run For a Bus
I do three to four runs a week with a weekly distance of 15 miles. The most I'll do for a long run is 8 miles but that's not often, usually a 10km around Wimbledon Common on a Thursday lunchtime.
I concentrate on 10km races because I like the distance and I've done three so far for 2009. Obviously I'd need to train more if I wanted to go back to Half Marathons.
My last 10km race was 50-19 in June. I have another race in October where I'm looking to dip under the 50 minutes.
As a young fella-me-lad my fastest 10km time was 47-00 while my best HM time was 1-44.

Wow, that half mile was as fast as my sprints used to be. Next time i see someone streak past me on my stroll i will know who it is! I do find Udon takes about 7lbs off me in the first 2 weeks from the diet and walking; i will have to think about a morning run around one of the parks too. Personally i like Nong Bua best. I may be lazy, but not lazy enough to say no.... it's the GF does that !

Not quite so easy to do in Thailand though Gazelle. It's a lot warmer and more humid here. I only have to go for a short walk or brush the garden path and the sweat starts dripping from my chin.Fawn wrote:I do three to four runs a week with a weekly distance of 15 miles. Glad to see your still doing the competition,Fawn.Doing a 10k race when youve got an artificial leg and are only 4ft 9ins tall is dedication indeed !
I used to do competition for Macclesfield Harriers,Staffs Moorlands and Altrincham AC,mainly road or track, but I quit in 1996 needing an ankle operation and had also got married recently to a typical English slapper !
I do a similar mileage to you here in Udon but mostly 2-3 miles 5 or 6 times a week. The turn of speed I had as a young man has long deserted me and I am content to do 15 mins for once around Nong Prajak.
On New Years Day I did 29-43 for 4 miles around the all weather track at Chaiyaphum.I was pleasantly surprised but suspect I only counted 15 laps instead of 16 !
I actually did a race in Thailand in Pattaya in 1988 when I was a young man.It was supposed to start at 5pm outside Alcazar on Second Road and was a 2 lap Second Road-Beach Road race, supposedly 7k but a bit short I think.
But at 4.50pm a whistle blew and a gun was fired (quite possibly Thai mafia) and the race was off. There were over 700 in it but there were small kids, mums, pensioners etc.starting on the front line instead of near the back so the first 2 kilometres was, literally,a case of fighting your way through. The weather was roasting and the second lap felt like the latter stages of a marathon but good fun and the beer certainly went down well that night !

Last night I did 50 minutes on the elliptical machine, I haven't tried any running yet.Zidane wrote:Lee,how far did you run today ? No excuses.

I know. I run around Nong Bua Park when I'm Thai side although it is in November. I used to run when I worked in the HK heat but I was a lot younger then. Cyprus as well, when I was working over there. I was caught out during the Paphos HM in February 1999 when it got too hot along the seafront and I was on my last legs. But I am by no means quick, not when there's guys coming in at 35 minutes on a 10km in the same race as me. I just enjoy it.arjay wrote:Not quite so easy to do in Thailand though Gazelle. Thanks.

Re: Brits Too Lazy To Have Sex, Let Alone Run For a Bus
I think you might have a better pedigree than me, although I used to run X-country for an RAF Station in Scotland and did a few XC races in Cyprus - always a bit of a tail end Charlie though.Zidane wrote:I used to do competition for Macclesfield Harriers,Staffs Moorlands and Altrincham AC,mainly road or track...
I'd have thought that 15 minutes would have been more like a warm up, why don't you try a 5km minimum. What's that, 25 minutes? I've never run at NP, I'll have to give it a go. There's a lake behind the Army hospital in Udon that quite a few people run around.Zidane wrote:I do a similar mileage to you here in Udon but mostly 2-3 miles 5 or 6 times a week. The turn of speed I had as a young man has long deserted me and I am content to do 15 mins for once around Nong Prajak.
Yes, it can always be a bit of a bugger's muddle in these races. I always start near the back and zip past people when I can, it's a mental thing, I think. Getting past people makes you feel good, it's a bummer when others are coming past you.Zidane wrote:I actually did a race in Thailand in Pattaya...there were small kids, mums, pensioners etc.starting on the front line instead of near the back...
Good one, I'll have to ping you for a run when I'm out in November.

Re: Brits Too Lazy To Have Sex, Let Alone Run For a Bus
bm,I think Fawn was just suggesting we go for a run together.I certainly cant imagine us having sex ....or at least I sincerely hope not !beer monkey wrote:Yeah Yeah Yeah....but what about the sex...?

But the 15 mins around Nong Prajak was just an example really.Quite often its a couple of times around there or 4 times around Nong Sim (about 3 miles) or a 2-3 mile lapped course around the estate where I live.
But 15 minutes in this heat and humidity is not a bad run.The cool season Nov-Dec is a lot better....the temperature dipped to 7c a few nights in January and it was similar to running in the UK in March !
By all means pm me when you are over Fawn and we'll sort a run out.....a couple of beers afterwards....maybe bm,Lee or arjay might make an appearance.....for the beer at least !

I thought BM was appropriately reminding us that there were two parts to the topic title, and that posters were getting too pre-occupied with the "running" part, and were overlooking the "sex" part!!Yeah Yeah Yeah....but what about the sex...?

Re: Brits Too Lazy To Have Sex, Let Alone Run For a Bus
Yes,I suppose we are going a bit OTT with the running !
As regards the sex bit,I dont think it applies just to Britain. Its anywhere in the working world where you have a lousy journey to work, stressful working day doing all hours then not getting home till the evening.
No wonder people are just to tired to then engage in an hour or twos humping......thats why people retire from their jobs early if they can.

No worries, I'll start a new thread on keeping fit. That way I can sideline BM's unhealthy interest in my sex life (if I had one).arjay wrote:I thought BM was appropriately reminding us that there were two parts to the topic title, and that posters were getting too pre-occupied with the "running" part, and were overlooking the "sex" part!!![]()
