Answer - read just about any thread! Someone always has a bad experience to tell. Or read the serial novela -
'missing property manager!'

Depends on who you are asking.... For instance Lee rhodes willnot accept that thailand is anything other than a paradise, where all thais love farangs... Me ive just bought a phone on the net did a transfer and no phone!!!! he didnt send it insured??? this is a farang too!!
A guy bought a bike from the auctions here in udon only to be told it was dangerous and would cost more to fix than its worth!! 2 potential conmen there!! the auction and the garage that he took it to!!!

Every traffic cop in thailand usually!!! and they dream up some ingenious ways to relieve you or us of our money..Most of the time a total con... so take your pick!!!! maybe i am wrong and they dont exist here!!!

I was hoping that the german involved could give his side of the story in more detail to counter anything that was said but the famous 'missing property manager' has been locked so we will never know.

At least it has brought home the fact that never do any financial deal with a farang here because how do you know how good any contract is in a foreign country.

The daily conmen here give 2 quotes for anything,if a farang asks then the price is way way higher than if the TW or girlfriend deals directly with their own folk.I must dress more scruffily while out and about to make the locals feel sorry for me and may even do some work for free :^o

The Daily Conmen will even try and charge the farang price if they see the wife with you.
If we are dealing with the little grubby shophouse owners for anything, it's a case of me keeping out of sight.
Our last time was trying to buy a Buddha image for the Buddha room. Shopowner saw me in the car, quoted the wife a silly price, which made her pout, and mumble some naughty Thai words in the local vernacular, as she got back into the car, without buying anything. She bought the Buddha image we wanted elsewhere 40% cheaper than the first price quoted.

Another time I was out with a mate in Udon, we came out of the venue, got into his car. A guy came up and demanded a "parking fee" in a public road. Must have thought, two farangs getting into a nice looking expensive car, lets have them.

Pompui, with an avatar like that (2 faces) you should be glad not to be quoted double price

I adapt to the system, the wife and I "shop" first (without buying or asking prices) she returns a week later and we get the stuff for thai price.
Don't swim against a strong stream, at the end you're going backwards anyway! :D

Double pricing ..
Park up the road...out of sight...the Mrs Removes the glittery Gold, then she can shop at the right price, shop house stores are shocking and can be quite rude, i rarely go in them F*** em, they won't get my cash if i can help it.

A few times when a deal has been struck by the Mrs i will enter the ring with the money.....the look on the shop owners face....priceless, Shopping In Thailand.... it is after all, a game, be in it to win it.

I rarely buy anything without a posted price! The wife has finally caught onto the concept of shopping versus ''buying'' also!

The topic seems very general to me,could invite name calling which would probably not be appropiate!

I'm guessing you are not talking about the legitimate parking fee collectors in the grayish/tan uniforms who ask for B2 motorcycle parking?

No it was not the uniformed parking fee collecters, like the ones who collect the fees next door to Ban Houy Market.
The bludger in question did not have any uniform, it was early in the morning, and as far as I'm aware the street has never had parking fees or collectors.

I rarely if ever defend a thai business man but every once in a while I meet one with HONOR who will not rip you off. the electrician who wired my house and sold me two A/C units is one of them who will get all my work when needed. the Pharmacy on the 2nd floor in the complex is another one with HONOR
and TONAN computer shop on the 2nd floor in the back of the complex also Honest and one of them speaks English not well but enough to understand both ways. Hardware House is Honest also you pay the same as a thai
this topic reminds of giving medals to people who go in to a bank & do not rob it LOL

he is definitely a little high priced, but if you tell him how much it should cost, he'll match it.

Once again I have to question your reading comprehension. All Thais love farangs? I really doubt that very much, especially the men. I am a relatively young man with a good head of hair, all my own teeth and in good shape and Thai men still point at me and laugh. I cannot understand why. I feel it is just insecurity on their part. I am sitting with a beautiful, well-dressed young Thai woman that they could never even dream of being with so they can only laugh to counteract their insecurities. I am sure you have experienced this.

Now don't get too full of yourself. I am sure that you have flaws na khap.

What makes you think that you are so above these Thai men that they could never be with a nice and pretty young lady? Insecurity can run in us all including me, the Thai men you do not understand and, of course, you.

It could be just a simple matter that these men are laughing because they know something about the beautiful, well-dressed young Thai woman that you don't, and they are making a joke at your expense.

Who knows? Don't worry about it. Baw pen yang dawk.
