Hormone Replacement Therapy

Post by homer » November 15, 2009, 1:30 am

I've been doing some reading up on hormone replacement therapy and was wondering if any of you had done the same or even tried it. The reason I was looking into this is because I've noticed over the past few(maybe more ;) )years that my energy levels have dropped significantly. Bumrungrad, in Bangkok, offer this therapy as a solution to a number of woes that we all experience as we get older. Any feedback?

Nope not for men, my ex had HRT due to a complete removal of the womb and ovaries, which led to early menapause.
I have not rea up on HRT for men but seems like a way of taking money for no real effect, which can be addressed by diet and exercise as I have been led to believe.

There are a few issues with mens health that can cause this.

A good assessment by an Endocronologist would sort this out. Issues such as Diabetes, Thyroid, Pituitory. Tetosterone levels , can all play up.

For sure a GP can run a few tests , but the implications and the bigger picture, - leave it to the experts.

Those little Thyroid glands can play havoc on your life !

Wazza, Couldn't agree with you more, and I wouldn't dream of doing anything like HRT without a battery of tests from an Endocronologist to determine if it was even needed. My understanding on the subject so far is that as men age, our pituitary gland produces less testosterone, and, of the testosterone that is produced, more is converted to estrogen. This can produce low energy levels, some loss of libido, elasticity in joints and internal organs. Apparently it can also affect blood pressure and prostate growth. From what I read, if a person has an existing form of cancer or diabetes, this form of therapy is not recommended, so you would want to have a thorough physical from your doctor.

By the way Paul, I couldn't agree more that a good exercise regime, and a proper diet are essential to good health. :D

There are different schools of thought on TRT (Testosterone Replacement Therapy) for men.
I suggest you get a copy of the book "Testosterone for Life" by Dr. Andrew Morgentaler, M.D., Associate Clinical Professor, Harvard Medical School. Then make up your own mind.
I have a downloaded copy of the book, that I can send to anyone via e-mail...send me a PM with your e-mail address.
The cover of the book clearly states: "From The Experts At Harvard Medical School ".
I don't think Harvard Medical School would let someone use their name on the cover of a book, if the school didn't take the subject of TRT and Andropause (male menopause) seriously?
