The thread is called "Udon's most expensive bar"

Why can't people stick to it?

Am I interested in bars in BKK? No I'm not. Otherwise I would start a thread "Expensive bars in BKK"

Joe

I just love Gulliver's. The restaurant side is an utter oasis. The food is passable, later in the evening (after they turn it on), the air conditioning is more than adequate, and more importantly, most nights, its quiet enough for several people to sit at a table and have a real conversation. Whenever I meet with three or more friends in Bangkok, we set out for Gulliver's.

By the way, back to the O/P: The price for four slices of Cheese on Toast at Steve's Bar & restaurant is about twice the cost of two slices of nearly identical Cheese on Toast at Mojo's, next door to Steve's. So I guess that would make them both the Udon's most expensive bar.

Since Bill sold the Hog's Breath in Nana to a group that turned it into a girly bar, we prefer to spend time at some of the quite out-door bars where the music is not too loud to understand the person next to you, and the women only pester you for drinks once or twice a night. Unfortunately, places like that are becoming increasingly difficult to find, but at Siam Smile, on Sukhimvit Soi 7 1/2 a small group of freinds can still go upstairs to the mezzanine, where its a little quieter, and sit around a coffee table and have nice get-together. There's even a pool table up there if one is so inclined.

said the sinner...

I'm flattered cryptic, by the way your name suggests you have a lot to hide.... :-k

It's really simple: when I click in the index on the thread Udon's most expensive bars I do that to read posts about that as it interests me.
I have a mobile internet connection with the amazing speed of 230 kbps, it takes about a minute before the thread is open. If I then see off topic posts about BKK bars I'm disappointed and waste my time.

So in the name of the rural Isan expats with GPRS please stick to the topic, there is a forum called Central Thailand with posts re BKK, Pattaya etc., a perfect place for your favorite BKK bars and their prices.

Cheers
Joe

Aardvark and Wazza, Thanks for your input.

I have started a thread about it in General Topics, so we won't stay off topic here

See you there.

Postings (such as this one) that try to do a moderator's job only drag the thread further off-topic. I think the moderators are doing a fine job and would as if they needed any help, IMHO.

The free WIFI at Mojo's is only a couple of weeks old, so it wasn't there when the O/P was made. But the air conditioning (when its on) counts for something. And I would think that the fact that the overall ambiance Steve's and Mojo's -both are large and uncrowded, with good staff and nice furnishings, would affect both the cost of their doing business and the value of eating there. I much prefer spending time in either place to one of those dusty open-air restaurants.

You got it wrong, a forum member who is aware of his off-topic postings should start a new thread about it and that is just what I did.
At the same time mod's did the same, so we had two equal new threads, mod's took care of it and everything is fine.

I agree the mod's do a great job, I did not intend to take over their job, merely was I aware of my off topic posting and took responsibility.

At the end this thread is cleaned now so we all wanted the same and that's why we all are happy :D

You are certainly not a blood hound, so I would take Hound out of your name.

The Beer Garden, Thai/German ownership is in soi 7 off Sukhumvit Road, about 250 yards from Nana Entertainment Plaza. NEP is in soi 4 and a Heine or San Mig will cost you 140b and a bottle of water will set you back 100b. I am talking about the Rainbow bars, Big Mango, Angel Witch, Playschool etc in the NEP.

You are right, Beer garden is one of the biggest bars in the area, Gullivers in soi 5 is not far behind it and there are no bar fines, they are freelance joints. I live not to far from the area and know of a few bars around Sukhumvit and Nana ghetto area.
i know where beer garden is and your right about 2 things soi 7 and german owned but your talking rubbish about prices there unless they ripped you off i been there 8 to 10 times last year and they only charge my friends and i 70 baht a bott

The Irish Clock is THE best bar in Udon in my humble opinion.

Good old Steve! \:D/

Freddy,
Not only are you not a hound, but also you need a pair of glasses. Better read my post and see where I mentioned high prices at beer garden, those prices were in NEP. I never get ripped off over here, only in the States.
