Thought I'd share this with you.
I was just reading an article in APC Magazine, tried the tweak then low and behold a very noticeable performance increase. This option relates to Xp, I don’t know if Vista or Windows 7 have the same option. Has to do with the operating system reserving 20% (by default) of the connection bandwidth for it’s own use whether needed or not.
To try it:-
Start>Run “gpedit.msg” (no quotes)
GoTo – Local Computer Policy/Computer Configuration/Administrative Templates/
Network/QOS Packet Scheduler/Limit Reservable Bandwidth.
Click on Enable and set it to Zero. The OS will then only use what it needs, works for me!

Is that correct as not finding and running XP? Would enjoy a faster speed, as occasionally use this type of ISP.gpedit.msg

Thank you mr Charlieb. I configured the "0" and I'll report back if it improves the GPRS performance.

Just to add:
Using this site http://www.speedtest.net/ testing to several locations inc. BKK, sites in Aust and the US I had an 7.2% increase in download speed and 8.5% increase in upload speed. Did not reboot after config changes.
