Ever wonder what Thailands traffic laws really are?
Re: Ever wonder what Thailands traffic laws really are?
when will these laws go into effect??? i hope the competent officers mentioned are more competent than some i've seen in the states, ie: rodney individual incident.
Re: Ever wonder what Thailands traffic laws really are?
Been in effect since 1979, just not enforced. Could come in handy in dealing tea money. When are they enforced after the accident.
Re: Ever wonder what Thailands traffic laws really are?
tea money -- how quaint.
I call it what it is -- a bribe.

Up to you my friend call it anything you want to.
Re: Ever wonder what Thailands traffic laws really are?
1. I interpert thai law as anything bigger than you has the right of way.
2.Traffic lights when the light turns red you can go thru it for 5 more seconds, maybe longer.
3. Up to 10 seconds before the traffic light turns green you are allowed to proceed.
4. It's not against the law to do anything. No police around,it is A free for all.

You know based on the responses I'm sorry I even offered the information.
Re: Ever wonder what Thailands traffic laws really are?
Well, I, for one, are grateful to you taking time to post it bumper.
Not exactly an easy read, but certainly interesting.

Re: Ever wonder what Thailands traffic laws really are?
Yes, my apologies, Bumper. I thought the information was good, too. Nothing much out of the ordinary. It's sad that you can plainly see multiple infractions on any given day and nobody seems to care. After reading all the laws, it made me think of how futile the job must be compiling such a list. Completely meaningless.
Thanks for the link.

Re: Ever wonder what Thailands traffic laws really are?
These things are not enforced until there is an accident, good to know what is real and what is made up on the spot.
Re: Ever wonder what Thailands traffic laws really are?
I Like the section 10; A vehicle must NOT emit gas, dust, smoke, etc, exceeding the regulation. i have read that for new vehicles,Thailand has one of the strictest emission laws, thats why even small motorcycles have a "cat" in the exhaust, and they are all using fuel injection. What law does a tuk tuk come under, in section 4 it is a Automobile, but seems to exempt from most things, including License Plates. Another one i like is Vehicles on Roads must be properly maintained.! Also I Suppose now that most people during the day wear helmets on motorbikes the boys in Brown are going to have to look for other things to get Money.!

Re: Ever wonder what Thailands traffic laws really are?
I'm hearing even the small bikes will have fuel injection next year. But the others will still be out there.
Re: Ever wonder what Thailands traffic laws really are?
Not to get off the thread too much but I saw a first? the other day. As I pulled into the gas station near Makro there was two Thai's on a motorbike pulling in. They proceeded to hand a clear plastic bag to the a attendant and he filled it with approx. 3-4 liters of gasoline, paid him the correct amount and they proceeded down Posi road. A potential bomb on it's way to work I guess!
Re: Ever wonder what Thailands traffic laws really are?
When we lived downtown, I'd see motorcycles racing down Tahan Rd (Military) in the evening with the driver lying flat against the seat. I've seen a husband and wife on a motorcycle with one of their children in front of the father (the driver), another child behind the father, and the mother in the rear with a small child in each hand.
BUT today, I got to see a real first class idiot....standing on his motorcycle as it was going down a back road (paved). I don't know how he kept it going, but I saw him standing for a good 200 meters before he passed over a small hill and disappeared from sight. He was talking to 'a friend' on another bike riding along side.

Re: Ever wonder what Thailands traffic laws really are?
Well Section 43 alone would eliminate just about all thai drivers from the roads. If thoroughly enforced. The rest of the regulation would eliminate the remaining.
