John Oles, from the VFW, stopped by Nissan Market and aked if they would give a few gifts to the children and boy did they ever. Now this was a complete surpirse to us we knew nothing about it. Each bag contained personal items like powder, toothe paste, hair conditioner cookies ect, but most important a small compact with blush and a mirror, now what girl could go without that  Stuffed animal loved by 3 to 17 year olds. Not a samll thing when you consider there are 200 of them. If you guys happen to be in any of these places please take a moment and say THANK YOU

This was the most unfair part of the entire day, they sung to Ron and I a thank you song. I truly wish that all of you who had helped could have been there and heard what I heard. They asked to come back again next year, so they must of had fun, we will try.

I think there will be more photos coming and I will post them as I get them . At some point I will try to write and describe what I saw but that is proving difficult to do where do you start with so much to work with. So many smiling faces and laughter.

The one thing the administrator said to me, now you have to understand she has no idea that we were just normal people until she saw this activity, we were two headed dragons. PLEASE DON"T FORGET US

She is the lady on the right and very protective of the children, we are very happy to see that

The photos were magnificent, Ray and Val. I sincerely believe that in some way, both of you are blessed for your involvement, as are any others who contributed!

You know this was just an empty place till those kids got there, then it came to life with laughter and smiles. I have never seen such courteous children, not one plate was left on the table. They helped to serve soft drinks and Ice Cream. Not one bit of food was thrown away. The gratefulness at such simple gifts was unbelieveable.

I have so many to thank, this started our as a vision by someone who had not a clue of how to do it. It became a very international effort, we had people from Denmark, Germany, England and the US who helped on this.

The Thai's what remarkable people:

Tool Pro asked for some help in finding busses, didn't have a clue. They provided all the transportation, and made sure the event was televised, seems the owner owns Home Cable as well.

First Homes told them I was short 100 tickets thinking they would chip in a bit, NO 15000 baht and bought one hundred tickets

Nissan Market hey how about a few things, not hardly gifts for 200

VFW shared this event with us and tried thier very best to make sure 200 kids had a great time and they did.

I would hope that all of us support this Thai businesse's who help thier own community JAI DEE MACH MACH

Well not sure what the next event will be but I'm sure there will be one, anybody who wants to jump in the big middle with me they are more then welcome.

I would say whatever you want to do, just try thats all I did

I don't want to take any credit from Ray. It was his baby from conception to birth, all I did was take a few photos of the kids, which I love doing anyway.
I repeat , very well done Ray, for a first effort you did 'B' well. Don't rest on your laurels though, the kids will still be there at Christmas. :D

Well I have hopes that they will infact be back for Christmas, but that is really in the hands of the VFW, as to if we get an invitation or not.

I still think your movie night is a great idea, just have to wait for rainey season to finish. Gulf Coast will be here on vacation fairly soon and want to paint a murriel ( spelling  ) for them so I need to follow up on that. I have opened the door for a charity bowling tournament for the home. But it is really sounding a bit to ambitious for me, have to see how that works out.

Let me say that I have gotten more then I could ever give from this, there are the smiles and laughter. But beyond that the people who came forward, they came froward because of what was in thier hearts, requesting no recognition. People representing countries that are not even in Thailand, some that don't ever have a vision of visiting Thailand. To me that was a very powerful message about people. Mine was just an idea without them it would not have happened.

Brillant me a usual not thinking anyone have experience in sitting up bowling tournaments, or motorcycle rally's?

Two things that are creeping around in the brain bucket. I think I know who to contact about a golf turnament.

Ray, you are to me commended for your powers of organization and persistance. That, and your being able to conceive of such a project, then carry it off so neatly. =D>

First Home alread has the largest chunk of business that I will give to any company in Thailand, at least for now. Too Pro will be the place I check first whenever I need to buy something that they might carry. Besides being impressed that they were able to throw so much support behind getting the girls to the orphange, they are also pretty good companies to work with.

Ray, we're just back from a visit to the Gulf Coast for 4th of July and what lovely news about the successful event! Many thanks for your involvement and efforts.

Unfortunately, my parents lost a dear friend this weekend (at 84 and 80 years old, this happens frequently now). The memorial request? A donation to the Children's Home. I cannot but think that the most unifying human aspect across the world is our love and care of children.

I'm truly sorry for the loss, donation to be honest this is all beyond any thing I can comprehend. This truly has been an amazing reminder of human mankind that we don't see on the news.

Sorry to hear the sad news. You didn't say what or where the childrens home is that will benefit but if its the girls home in Udon I would suggest a donation direct to the home would be most appropiate as a memorial donation. I was recently talking to the director there and she had a shopping list a mile long for things the girls need which cannot be covered by the day to day budget from central funds. As a lady I am sure you will appreciate the girls feelings when I say that just simple requirements such as underpants and bras were high on the list, but clothing of all sorts was required, as well as more personal items.
I understand you to say you will be in Udon soon and it would be a good opportunity to hand this money personally.
I think the kids have had their fun time for now, its possibly time to be of practical assistance.
If you disagree please ignore me, its just a suggestion.

Sorry for the confusion...no, I was referring to an earlier post in which I mentioned that my grandmother had been a housemother at the Protestant Children's Home in Mobile, Alabama for many years; this is why my family has been so involved with orphanage/children's home charities over the years.

That being said, I absolutely agree with you about the need for essentials such as undies and pajamas/nightgowns, etc. Kids are kids, and they are so hard on such items.

All I need it the age range at the orphanage, would help a lot when send them and they would be a veriaty of sizes.

Pops, thats a very nice gesture, can I just warn you however that while outerware and night clothes are very acceptable, underware that has been used, regardless of condition, is a no, no In Thailand. just ask your wife.
In any case knickers and pants etc are so cheap in the big stores, often only 20bht in the sale that its not really viable to ship in.
The home caters for girls and boys from birth to 2 years and girls only from 2 to 18, yes the oldest are attending college. Gives you an idea of the extent of the problem.

Yes they may have little boys older than the home should be catering for.
Your posting on aids.
All the childrens medical records are kept confidential along with the details of any family they might have. These records are only available to the higher officials at the home and in the welfare dept at city hall, so unless you are one of these people your statement can only be conjecture and if it is, not very helpful and in my view an unwarranted intrusion into the childrens privacy. Use a little more tact in future postings please.

You are correct the childrens medical records are obviosuly confidential however it is known to those who work with the children which ones have the virus as obviosuly steps must be made to stop it being passed on to the other children. My statement regarding they probability of these children having relatives around the area with the virus was in no way meant to offend, yes your right it was 'conjecture' but due the the stigma surrounding the virus most comments made about whether or not it is a problem in Udon as per the other thread will be conjecture. In no way was my comment meant to be an intrusion on the privacy of the children and i apologise if people felt this was the case, however i felt it was a relevant statement. After all if a problem is hidden such as AIDS often is in all societys very little is done to prevent it speading and too educate people. However once again i apologise if anyone was offended by my comments. I feel this thread should get back to the more positive things involving the children such as gifts of new clothes for the little mites :)
