We live next to the Army base in Nong Som Rong. An announcement just came over the base loudspeaker.
I asked my wife what the message was. She said they said "30 minutes until we move out", roughly translated.

Ch 3 says reds have taken over provincial hall in Udorn. Young men have set fires to tires outside. Heavy winds worrisome.
Just got off the phone with Pop's from Pop's Internet. He passed through Nong Prajak, Red Shirts all over the place, also at Tsimung Muang park where they're trying to get into the park. Fires have been started in that area and the army just showed up. As far as Pop's can see the Army is not armed with rifles, batons only. He also reported a few people have been injured.

Oh goody a real live riot, last time I was in a riot was about 30 years ago, they are such fun, you get to beat up anybody you do not like, they can beat you up as well. We all get to meet in the local hospital and have tea together.
I will go and book a ring side seat right now, cannot wait to see the blood and gore and all those delightful images which will remain imprinted on my brain for the rest of my life to show just HOW STUPID people are.

Just drove by Tungsi Muang. Looked like a building on fire and tires burning and a good sized crowd. When I saw people pushing down the police barricades, I figured it was time to go.

And by 1400 hrs the fires have started and the thugs just casually drive in as they please to help out. I mean it's not as if they are camouflaged. Oh I forgot, lunch time, police and army are having kin cow and afternoon nap.

Been an hour since the last update. Can someone keep us, out in the rice paddies, abreast of the latest news from Udon?
Thanks.

If you receive Home Cable, on Chanel 1, they keep breaking in to regular programming with updates.
If you don't, the last update I saw showed both the City Hall and the Provincial Hall, engulfed in flames.
I'm no engineer, but it looks to me like they're toast, and will have to be completely rebuilt???
Burning and burned out vehicles on the road, including a fire truck.

Thanks jingjai, not looking good! The only cables we have are power and they don't work very well either.

At MacDonald's about 3:30 PM today, staff was buzzing about they had been told to shut down as trouble was expected. Then on leaving, the entrance to UD Canter from Posri road was barricaded so I assume the whole Center is to be shut down. Did not hang around to investigate, just hauled our asses home where I have a good supply of liquor, cigarettes and rice, so nothing more to report. Also saw a couple of pickups loaded down with tires headed west on Posri.

For all those people who have given support to the Red shirts during their protests you should hang your heads in shame. This beautiful country is being ruined by a band of thugs. So sad to see Udon going up in flames [-X :(

The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

Joseph Stalin, or Mao Tse Tung?

Or in this case, Thaksin Shinawatra?

So very very very sad to see my lovely Thailand burn. Nobody knows what is going to happen now. Will this be the beginning of a civil war ? Complete anarchy now....

Just been told by a friend returning from Udon that it is shutting down. OK there goes my shopping trip tomorrow but I wonder about the banks. BKK have closed most of theirs and many ATM's have been looted/damaged by these so called peaceful protesters. I know here in Ban Dung that the 'Governor' has moved out of town to his village expecting violence even here.

Better stock up Eddie!

"many" ATM's were not looted. In fact, Thai media showed only one looted 7-11 where they focused on how whoever had looted it (alleged Red thugs) also dug out the ATM.. Up until today, the Red Shirts were not messing much with private property. Today, particuarly after the "surrender" of the Red leaders is when the massive arson attacks, some looting, and criminal acts began.. All by Reds..?? Perhaps, but there's plenty of thug opportunist out there that wear no whatever color shirt is right for them..
