Re: Safety in Udon Thani
The word sheep comes to my mind but I fear other expressions be more appropriate.
Now don't go down that road ....... you will upset all our Welsh/Aussie/New Zealand posters

I seem to remember when the going gets tough the tough get going, bye y'all, not being tough, I'm staying weather the storm , keeping an eye out for cloudbursts and strong winds, sailing off into the twilight zone when I am good and ready. Moving a thought I have not yet, nor will I entertain. Stiff upper lip and all that what !!!!!!!!!!!!

Bloomin' good show old boy. Can't let these local skirmishes upset a chaps way of life. Tiffen at 4 followed by a chukka or two of polo as usual.
Re: Safety in Udon Thani
My misses insists, the curfew no longer includes Udon Thani - since last night, and my misses rarely insists on anything, so good news (and it is on topic) the quiz night will still be going ahead on Thursday night, if it goes on after 11pm I will supply armoured vests for your journey home, simply because my misses is rarely correct about anything.
Do you remember the film (now it was only make believe) about a certain individual and a school teacher, well that make believe individual had 81 children, now given that was 5 generations back, I wonder how many off-spring there would be from the make believe 81 children, now these 81 children's offspring need jobs of high position, you know like generals, politicians, judges, etc. There's a large crowd of elite people for you, imagine them wanting to keep control of your country, but remember it's important to add - the film was not based on any true facts and all the people were fictional.

So when I get stopped at about 1am in the morning, I'll send PC Plod round to have a chat with your misses then Glyn. If the curfew is extended (as seems likely) you won't need the armoured vests until midnight (00.00 - 04.00).Glyn wrote:My misses insists, the curfew no longer includes Udon Thani - since last night, and my misses rarely insists on anything, so good news (and it is on topic) the quiz night will still be going ahead on Thursday night, if it goes on after 11pm I will supply armoured vests for your journey home, simply because my misses is rarely correct about anything.

Now it all makes sense ........... Julie Andrews isn't real at all ......... she was just a character played by that wonderful actress Mary Poppins .......... It must be true, the quizmaster is ALWAYS right!!

John - you pickin' on my grammer, I'm only right on the nite!!
Can confirm my misses hasn't got a clue, curfew tonight 11pm, from Thursday it will be mid-night, so I'll cancel the order on the 16 bullet-proof jackets (they were quite suspicious as to their purpose anyway), and promise to wrap it up by 11:30 giving you all 30 mins to dodge the bullets,

Re: Safety in Udon Thani
So, I heard the curfew was extended another 7 days after the most recent extension of 3 days. Bets on another extension?
Re: Safety in Udon Thani
I went to Makro & Lotus in Udon yesterday and I also went to Mc Donalds. Everything seems normal except 1. Fewer people out, maybe 3-5% less. 2. Different mood, not so many smiling thais 3. The police seemed to stop only thais with bigger cars or trucks.
And 4. A big military transportation plane (like a smaller version of a Hercules) kept circling around the city. Or maybe there were more planes?
My guess is that it was probably sending in more tanks or looking for "protest activities" or just wanting to show off whos in charge.
Did anyone else see this plane or planes?
As for the road to Nong Khai everything is normal.

I presumed the Americans were coming back to town for their usual R&R! Thought the owner of G spot in D&N said so a couple of months back.DannyAsia wrote: And 4. Re: Safety in Udon Thani
Yes saw the aircraft above Udon and in the evening it was suggested that it maybe an intake of army personel from the South but stories always gain for the telling and this must be treated as rumour not fact.

Saw it too, not USA.pompui wrote:I presumed the Americans were coming back to town for their usual R&R! Thought the owner of G spot in D&N said so a couple of months back.DannyAsia wrote: And 4. Re: Safety in Udon Thani
I thought it was the ABO's ............... Association of Bar Owners (Udon Branch) working on a new way to get their customers past the curfew.
Re: Safety in Udon Thani
Great Pictures of the plane man! Hopefully Udon will be booming with beer drinking farangs thanks to this.
But seriously, was it one aircraft or several aircrafts? I'm not sure cause it seemed to be circling waiting for landing or something. But I saw this/these planes several times coming in and out of view for at least one hour so it's hard to tell if it was one or several planes and what they were doing.

Probably doing touch and go's for landing practice. Singapore does flight ops in Udon for training.

Top picture shows, what appears to be, the Thai flag on the tail of the C130. They have 12 of them based in Bangkok.bumper wrote:Probably doing touch and go's for landing practice. Singapore does flight ops in Udon for training.

Re: Safety in Udon Thani
Also if you blow the picture up, you can see the words "ROYAL THAI AIR FORCE" on the upper part of the fuselage, just aft of the cockpit. It's blurry when I tried to crop and post it, but if you go back to the original and enlarge it, the letters are clear.

Re: Safety in Udon Thani
Boy you guys have good eyes Thai Airforce it is.
Re: Safety in Udon Thani
Yeah, it is a Hercules. A C-130H I presume. No way is it for moving troops since it only takes 94 people or something and it would be easier and cheaper to send troops by road. It probably moved military stuff.
It is also said that it can be used for "homeland security"? Anybody knows what it's mission were?
