I think newcomers are welcome & necessary.
Some do, however, come on just to advertise their mate's business or slag off a competitor & they certainly are not welcome.
Some also ask advice & have no intention of actually taking any.
Some are just rather anti-social individuals who have already been banned from numerous other Forums. All of them can certainly be done without.
Some of the existing members have 'bees in their bonnets' about certain subjects & a new member asking a question on that item will certainly get a answer that might seem abrasive, but isn't necessarily!!

A little give & take is needed by both new posters & regulars & many, many questions asked have already been done to death already which can upset regular posters!!

hi there i am definetly a newbie i felt i was given a warm welcome and had some nice responses from my few experiences i shared. I would say i am a reader rather than a poster i tend to use you as a referance library because as said in previous posts most what i wanted to know about has been covered in great depth and detail and i feel that if i needed any help it would be forth coming. I enjoy most of your banter and can understand why some get niffed but its bound to happen in such a vast cross section of posters.Only in my opinion ithink this is the best web site for keeping up to date with the goings on in udon a place close to my heart.I wish everyone well and look forward to puting a few faces to names one day at one of your meetings ( over a few pints) Please keep up the good work and dont be to hard on each other. I hope this newbie has not stepped over the mark

Once you realize the forum is comprised of mostly crotchety old geezers who ran out of prune juice and are probably constipated, their acerbic dispositions aren't so repulsive.

Still wacky and wrongheaded at times, but not so repulsive.

After a number of posts, there are certainly a number of Key commandos on here that will do their best to make you go away. People who have bee voicing their opinions for a year or two definately get more consideration from the moderators than us 'Newbies'. Since being on here Ive been insulted a few times by real idiots and while they seem to be able to insult me, when i respond I get my posts removed by the mods.

Having said that there are some real nice people out here who just want to help and as i said before the good ones outway the bad.

Why the old folk on here try to give newbies a 'Baptism of fire' is beyond me. Maybe becasue this is the only forum they have to get there frustration about their lives out. Sad but very very true

I think your belief that newcomers get treated harsher than old posters is possibly correct Dermot. However, realistically that will be the case in any group someone joins. After someone has posted many times about a number of subjects then other posters get used to 'where they are coming from'. If they then find their posts repugnant to their own philosophy on life then they have the ability to make the poster a 'Foe' & so not see the posts - up to them.
If a new poster comes onto the Forum & immediately appears to be aggressive & argumentative then, of course, he is going to be taken to task by the moderators. Lively debate conducted in a civilized manner is the life blood of any Forum. Aggression and antagonizing existing members sure as hell is not welcome here - even if it is on some Forums - and a new member that appears to be doing that deliberately will get warned very quickly to moderate their behavior.

Udonmap has a set of rules which ALL members agree to before they can post. That set of rules is enforced. If EVERY poster read the rules & abides by them then no post would ever be moderated - if from a 1,000 post member or a first.
Sadly that is not the case - something that posters should possibly consider BEFORE they complain about moderation!!

Bob,

Im well aware of the rules, just dont like the way Mods, obviously like yourself, apply them to some people and not to others! Read through my posts, they are not agressive or arguementative at all. They are in response to Agressive and argumentative people!

This is a perfect example of what i mean......You have just proved my point for me! Thanks!

Dermot, you appear to have a reading comprehension problem.
Where did I say that any of your posts were aggressive or argumentative??
Take care to read what people actually write & not what you think they write.

I will leave that to others to decide Dermot, I am pretty sure of my track record in posting on this (& other) Forums :(
Interesting that you 'know' what I wrote, yet cannot quote it from my words.....

As a newbie on here I have been treated very well thats all I can say ,,,,, any topics I have made have been answered quite usefully , and hope beginning to forge some good friendships for the future . I make no secret of the fact that as yet I am not an ex pat ,, but have connections to Udon via my wife + the fact in about 5 years fingers crossed we will buy and retire in Udon ,,,,,,,this creates a problem over in the other big 2 sites as I was often ignored as one of those wannabies .. which is a little short sighted IMO as even those amongst us living back in our homelands at present can help with first hand experience in such issues as visa,s travel, family relationships and up to date info back home . I have been back and forth 12 times now and driven N , S , E , and west over the LOS so not exactly a Thai newbie .
Anyway good luck to all I have no axe to grind here ,, and am very gratefull there is a forum connected to the place I want to settle in ,cheers !

DC, I do not think Bob's post implied anything against you, and based on some of your posts you do tend to read what you want, not what is said. But as the old saying goes " If the shoe fits wear it" and you seam to wear many shoes.

i do agree there, you are responding defensive and the tone in aggressive (for an innocent outsider like me). The text Bob wrote about argumentative etc was written without direction to an individual but as an example to all. At least that is my understanding of the text.

But who am I? Just another newbie who will now get the flame :D

I don't know Bob...have never met him. However, having read his comments over the last couple of years, has led me to believe that he approaches each post with fairness and integrity!

What a strange attitude to life you have got. Just because someone doesn't agree with your opinions. I have never met Bob and have in the past, crossed swords with him. However I think his moderation of this forum is normally carried out in a very fair, sensible manner , for the benefit of all members , old and new .
Does that comment mean you think I am attempting to butter him up? You couldn't be further from the truth as many Pm's him and I have exchanged would prove .What possible benefit would any member have in doing so ? I can't think of any and if you used your head , I doubt if you could . So why not pause before writing and think about what you are actually saying .You might realise how ridiculous it is . [-X
Ageing is a privilige denied to many .
