Woa! Can I say as a newbie here but not to internet forums, there is some disturbing attitudes here, I've not been here long enough to figure out the dynamics, but there seems to be a few posters who are overly aggressive in how they treat newbies. I hope real life doesn't reflect their attitudes here.

batten down the hatches nmp because the kitchen sink will be on the way. Everyone is entitled to their view within the rules of the forum, however it appears that from time to time those self anointed few, take it upon themselves to ridicule, humiliate and intimidate those who venture forward into the world of cyber communication. I find the positive information, support, experience and local knowledge offered up a real plus. If you treat the shallow and snide contributions as a necessary evil to enable other members to provide a worthwhile contribution you will enjoy and benefit from this site. Welcome to the forum.

I don't have a lot to say, but when I do I come out and say it.

I got bashed for my first post because I started a thread on the delicate issue of Iraq.

Thankfully, the thread quickly turned out to be an intelligent one though and is still one of the most popular on the forum. :bighead:

Time for me to get thinking again!

As the OP of this thread, it's time for me to add my two pence worth.
While it is patently obvious that there are some on here who regard it their own private little club, and resent the presence of "newbies", most people are friendly and helpful.
Obviously you do get the odd newbie who is a total jerk, such as the recently banned one. But the forum is just a microcosm of life. Some nice guys, some arseholes. Just go round the bars in Udon, or anywhere, and you'll meet the full range. Like as been previously said, it's just a question of sorting the wheat from the chaff.

aarjay and adhoc, thanks for your comments, for the most part very sensible. I do find it difficult to take any bs from some people on here, thats for sure, lol! Can i give you an example.....TRUBRIT had mentioned on this thread that he found my comments about Kissing offensive......I havnt said anything about Kissing and have given him the opportunity 2 times now to come back and show me where I have. He hasnt of course, ignored the comments by me on two occasions and continued to show what a distain he has for newbies on here. So in summary he has accused me of doing something I havnt, posting something I havnt and just ignores it when i call him on it!

Adhoc, you make the most sense (except for the comment about the recently banned person, IMO) and I will take your advice but having said that I will stick up for myself and any other newbie that the long term posters gang up on, as long as they are right of course! Everyone is entiltled to their opinion, new or old poster and as you can see from this thread there are more than a few newbies that have been treated unfairly by the usual suspects on here! New blood is obviously needed along with the long termers who have the information and experience to help us newbies.

The only lat thing Id like to say is ''TRUBRIT, CAN YOU APOLOGISE FOR MAKING COMMENTS ABOUT ME THAT ARE UNTRUE OR ARE YOU JUST GOING TO IGNORE ME FOR THE 3RD TIME?'' You have been called out my friend.

Thanks to the people who made very sensible comments and MODS please note for future ref that there is more than just me who is upset at their treatment out here. Thanks again

So it depends on how long I am a newbie as to my classification? When did the jerks, arseholes and niceguys serve their probation for their classification? If in 2 years I become a jerk is that OK? See what I mean and what I believe ops are on about?

Assuming your question was a genuine one, I'll correct my response - my answer was intended to convey that one is normally judged by one's posts (over a period of time), - not by length of membership. Sorry I didn't make that clear. ;)

I swear I already posted this, maybe it was a server issue?

Why would my question not be genuine?

Well, I am no longer a newbie, but not an oldtimer, under 3 years on here. Have i ever been attacked on here? Not really, sometimes a few people have jumped to assumptions but soon put right. Yes, a lot of the old timers on here do think they are the authorities on all things post related, and assume new comers are naive and inexperienced. But as ageneralisation, that is often true.

When a newcomer comes and asks sensible questions, mainly sensible answers. When a new-comer posts more provacative opinions, he is more likely to be jumped upon. But the best way to deal with criticism is to deal with it calmly; this isn't a boxing ring (usually).

Dermot does come across a bit agressive. As for his complaint about Trubrit and kissing, if he had read on properly he would have seen that Trubit did not like the term 'crawling up someones arse' - which was used by Dermot - and refers to it as arse kissing instead.

I know nothing about any PM's sent, am not going to say who is in the wrong, but Dermot may have some problems in future..... just the feeling i get. It's just a forum, if someone gets nasty, just ignore them. Mods do a job, not always to everyones satisfaction, but someone has to do it.

Rick, you seem to have it 100% right.

I am not a cronie, and I do not know Bob (did not even know he is a mod here :D )I just read his post and on DC's request replied how I read it.

DC, in the few posts I made here (questions or answers) I have never been made feel unappreciated (except just now by a newbie in this topic)

Rick your comment below,

Dermot does come across a bit agressive. As for his complaint about Trubrit and kissing, if he had read on properly he would have seen that Trubit did not like the term 'crawling up someones arse' - which was used by Dermot - and refers to it as arse kissing instead.

Now if you can actuallly point out anywhere on this thread that i used the words 'crawling up someones arse' which you said I have used Id really appreciate that....

Again another person who obviously hasnt read the thread properly. If people are going to have an opinion why do they need to spice up things other people say. I never said anything about crawling or used the word arse before TRUBRIT made that comment. So now Rick by being like that I cant even take your post seriously

is it possible to get any further up his backside?

The wording is not exactly quoted before, the meaning can however be perceived identical. People read it well, just can't all be bothered to look up the exact quote.

Yes erik1 that is what i said, well done.

What has been mentioned by TRUBRIT and Rick could be considered far stronger than what I actually said!
Im glad someone had the brains to go back and look at what was actually said before they posted untruths!

Your comment is accepted erik1 but what said seemed to be the question here is the wording of what i said and to any native english speaker there is a difference in the agression of the language used which would lead people to think something different about me. People are entitled to their opinions of course but please dont try and 'SEX UP' anything anybody else says

Agree with what you say, but as a non english speaker the aggression in the language used was perceived the same. I think you should be aware that there are a lot of non-natives here. Also people with less understanding.

Then Erik if they can not understand properly what is going on they shouldnt really post then should they?

Having said that.....your point is taken and I can understand where yu are coming from, after all you are the only one who bothered to quote me correctly....

Just for your info TRUBRIT is obviously a native English speaker along with most of the other people who got what i said wrong!

Again, thank you for your comments
