Another thing that pissed me off today...

Post by KHONDAHM » November 10, 2010, 8:21 am

FYI - Just a vent thread. Sometimes one needs to vent somewhere. May as well be here.

It seems that there is consistently a problem with people in this country who agree to do or not do something, then they do exactly what they agree they would not do or don't do what they agreed they would do. THEN when the problem you foresaw arises, they act like YOU are the ass for getting upset because of the problem THEY caused. They see themselves and behave as if THEY, not you, are "the victim" and mope around for sympathy like YOU are the bad guy.

IT PISSES ME OFF!!! :badteeth:

Vent over.

I couldn't believe how upset I got yesterday when I picked my almost 19 yr.old daughter up from school! Her hair was ''bowl cut'' at ear level. Some teacher(not one that she knows)walked up to her group, told my daughter to come with her.She took her in a room ,emphatically ntold her that her hair was to ''wispy'' on the side,it should be worn thicker, proceeded to cut her hair ,while telling her,if she ever wore it like that again, she would not be allowed in this school! My daughter is a senior, presently testing for Universities and this was her first day back from break!

No teachers in the classes because this is the beginning of prepping for sports week, but some gestapo ''teacher'' is cruising the campus to chop hair?

take my word for it,her hair was not some weird hairdo,it was the shortest that she had ever worn it.the problem was it was to wispy on the side ends. Many of the girls are wearing their hair the same,so my first thoughts were that she is the darkest in skin color of her group and relatively new to the teacher as she has only been there for 2 1/2 years,an obvious low class outsider! This school was recommended because it had an ''English program'', she can speak and understand English(but with very poor grammar),since she had to ''test'' in English to be admitted, passed easily while finding the test quite easy, but wasn't admitted to the ''English program'' because she wasn't M-1,she was transferring as M-3,WTF is wrong with this f.....g country?

Funny thing is that my daughter doesn't think it looks so bad,I just hate the fact that she is a girl that studies like crazy, asks questions with some thirst for knowledge while her classmates cheat on tests, copy her homework etc.etc. and the school system personel could care less, receiving bonuses of 100K-200K  ,for doing what?

My daughter has tried to fit in the social world of school, but has got her confirmation now that there is a difference between cheating and not cheating,All her classmates have been unable to understand and have any confidence that they might have done well on some of the entrance exams, although some were very difficult,my daughter feels she has done OK,but complains that many questions were on topics she had never heard about before

On my recent trip to thailand in july my wifes uncle passed away on the second day we were there.Im sure all you guys know what happens at thai funerals but was my first time attending one, what pissed me off was these teams that run the hi low gambling game,i hate gambling and at somebodys funeral when people grieving pissed me off. I asked the wife if her family new these people running the gambling games she said that she didn't but it happens at all funerals.Anyway i bite my tongue and say no more, twenty minutes later a motor bike pulls up next to the hi low games and says somthing to the guys running the games, two of the mats pack up the equipment jump on there motorbikes and take off,i said to the wife whats happened she says that somebody died down the road and they want to go there to gamble as well.some people just have know respect.

I would have a serious issue with a Thai teacher chopping off my child's hair.
It would become quite animated. :badteeth:

Wouldn't sending her home be more appropriate?
Maybe detention for breaking a rule?
Maybe a letter sent home to parents outlining what the restrictions are and citing the student's failure to meet them.
Maybe suspend her if it's an ongoing discipline issue?

Cut it ... aw, hell no!

Re. Haircut,
My daughter got an haircut from her teacher 4 month ago (Thesaban2) and I bacame so ****** angry  that I went to the teacher and asked her to do her ****** job, teaching, and NOT haircut. She became very surprised to my outburst, but I told her that nowhere is there written that the girls should have a certain hairdress, and as long the hair is well trimmed and clean, she should keep her ****** fingers away.
It helped, she has not since then heard anything about too long hair

Seems turn about would be fair. Go visit the teacher with a pair of scissors. Perhaps a trim would in order.

Co-signed! Maybe it's my Native American heritage and ghetto up-bringing which is flaring as I type this just thinking about it, but I would make it my mission to creep up behind that teacher with my own scissors and take at least a clump, then have that civil conversation. That's just me when it comes to MY Precious.

That is exactly what I would like to do and how I feel!If it was a falang situation ,I would definitely confront the person, but I have been here long enough to recognize a no win situation and my daughter is OK with it!
BUT it still pisses me off!

Wow her hair looks to be short enough in the picture to pass as OK for a 10 YO going into the village school but I can't believe they would do that to a 19 YO, it's criminal.

We sent TW's daughter to a private school at the age of 10 and there were no hair length limitations, thus is some sort of status symbol. She is now 15 and after 2 years of threats about her very bad reports has been placed back into the government school system. I was hoping that her beloved hair would have to come off but apparently that is not the case here in Ban Dung, after that age it is up to the parents.

So my only way to discipline her, apart from loosing the private school status, was to reduce her weekly allowance (pocket money) THAT PISSED HER OFF!

It’s a strange world here on occasions. Like a near 19 year-old student seemingly accepting that a teacher can just lop off her hair. I’m all for appropriate respect to be shown, in both directions, but it has to be earned. If my daughter, I think I might have been up the school very quickly!
No health issues here. Goodness, even the teenage boys are constantly preening themselves! I do understand, however, that for younger children less concerned about presentation, the teacher might be concerned about e.g. nits. (There’s usually some kid scratching his/her head in our home village and hygiene is not, always, to the fore.) Even then, send a message to the child’s parents or carers, in my book.

Health issues? Nits? What about if the teacher happened to nick the skin with her presumably, un sterilised scissors that may have been used on countless heads, to say nothing of what other things may have been cut with them . If my child I would have least sent them a legal letter pointing out that their action is not only dangerous but even under Thai law, could be taken as personal assault, leaving the teacher and the school, open to criminal charges . Common sense would dictate that if the hair style or length was contrary to school regulations that the student was given a note to that effect to take home to the parents .
Ageing is a privilige denied to many .

I seem to remember that a few years back the "bowl cut" for girls and "buzz cut" for boys in the public school systems was done away with.. In talking with relatives they told me that was true but many teachers perpetuate the old standards since "that's the way its always been"...

Yes, Trubrit, you came at health issues from another direction. But we agree that this teacher’s action is totally unacceptable. The girl may be a student, but she is also an adult, which makes it even more bizarre to me. So TIT.

It’s been covered in other topics, but I was making the point that this seniority thing in Thailand means that most students study in automatic awe of their teachers, accepting that what the teacher says or does must be right.

A diversion, but I somehow doubt that generally the staff working in the plethora of mens/ladies basic hairdressers here have much idea of sterilization of scissors etc. Whether they have to be registered and checks made, I’ve no idea. But when I see some hospitals/venues providing a single cup which all patients/visitors drink water from, I doubt it.

Actually Brian my wife is a fairly recently qualified hairdresser and her training college did emphasise the desirability of sterilising the utensils after each customer but I have got to admit we had a hell of a job buying a sterilising cabinet locally, eventually getting one from Bangkok .So it would appear, certainly in Udon , they are very rare . :-"

Good luck to your wife.

No offence, but I was daft enough to let my first wife drag me into, in her case, the unlikely to succeed hairdressing idea. She spent weeks at what I thought was the No.1 training school in Bangkok and the sub place here in Udon. I can't recall ever seeing any sterilisation going on. I should say barbers I used to go to, did put alcohol on blades for the finishing touch.
