Just got back home from Udon. Rented a scooter there as I have done before, next time I'm thinking of buying one
Any suggestions form anyone as to which 1 to buy.I'm 5'7,and weigh about 90 kg.
Looked at honda clicks and air blades, als o a bigger honda, but that was 72000 baht.
Looked at yamaha nouvos as well.
Could anyone give me the good and bad of these scooters as I really haven't been able to compare them.
Thanks in advance

Re: wanting to buy a scooter
hi whendo,
i have had many mb, scooters allready , starting from ipop( 50cc surely to small for you ) , suzuki 110cc( not scooter) , bought second hand , and lasted in my thai family hands 14 years , but always looked like ----, sorry, the first mb was a honda wave 110cc with clutch, had problems starting , sold it after only 124km,and bought honda click forward , very good mb this..
i also bought yamaha nuovo second hand 1 year old for the daughter, problems starting in morning , and sometimes stopped in middle of the road , had to wait 5 min , before able to start again, ,later after we sold the nuovo we bought yamaha fino for my wife and gave the click to the daughter , more bad as this one had a manual choke which my wife ( who is always driving the mb's) couldn't handle it ...., also not easy to start when cold ( when we went back to the shop to complain had many customers there with same problem, seems to be a yamaha problem....) so sold the fino and bought the honda air blade as the click was so good before ...,
now my advice would be for you a mb like air blade because this one has double suspension springs in the back , click , fino etc only one.., in my opinion honda has got the best engines , and most updated technology, plus click , air blade , PX have water cooled engine...., ( yamaha nuovo and mio also now i think , but not my favored) ,
if you do not want to spend to much i want to sell the air blade of the wife, as she always complain to big and heavy for her....the bike is from 12 /sept/ 2008, has 4.300 km , and price would be 35.000 bath ( bought 52.500) , maybe an option to you , i hope the advice helps you out ..........
good luck...

Re: wanting to buy a scooter
Hi,
Got a Yamaha Nouva, automatic, no manual choke on it, five years ago new, 45,000B when the pound was worth 71 B. Best thing i have ever done. The first year this was our only transport, carried me, 88Kilos, and daughter on back, she is 50K. pulled really well and cheap to run. Over 40,000K on clock now. Never had any trouble with it. Had it serviced reg. Starts O.K. hot or cold, never had any problem in the five years i've had it. Touch wood.
The only problem i ever encounted was a puncture, could happen to anyone and not the bikes fault. 15K outside of Udon, it always happens out in the sticks, and not near home. It happened within 100m of a Thai garage. They went and got a new inner tube and the total charge was 120B. It was a rear wheel and on the auto's you have to take pipe off among other things. He had to phone Yam. dealer to find out.
Was going to buy a second hand one but decided it was not worth the hassle. After seeing the way some Thais ride, i've seen 5 on a bike once. And the antics of some of the young kids goes beyond belief.
Do what i did and take a test drive on a few makes before you decide. I am 70 and still like to go out on the bike into the countryside for a peaceful drive.
The only thing i found out when i bought it, they would not give a discount for cash. Might have been just the dealer.

Re: wanting to buy a scooter
I think that is pretty general douglas - the price is the price & will not vary much from shop to shop either. It is very much the same with 4 wheel purchases as well. Where you can get the deal is maybe by having a few 'extras' thrown in, maybe a lockable box on the rear, free jacket, that type of thing...douglas wrote:The only thing i found out when i bought it, they would not give a discount for cash. Re: wanting to buy a scooter
if you can ride a mans bike, get a yamaha X1R 135cc 6 speed gearbox
older fast bike suziki raider 150 6 speed (one in sisaket for sale cheap)
or any 135cc 6 speed gearbox bike
if you cant ride a clutch bike yamaha nuovo elegance 135 cc automatic (one in the classifieds)
honda airblade: looks nice, but is a gutless piece of crap
honda pcx, ugly as sin, 125cc and way overpriced
fino: piece of crap....a target for theives
honda 100 the bike of the masses, a target of theives and its gutless, no power, wussie bike
mio: small tires and small wheel base = worthless ride
honda automatics- slow and not worth it
I have 2 pimped out street race bikes one has not been beaten yet, the kids still try everyday.

Re: wanting to buy a scooter
Have a Yamaha Nuovo 3 years old no problems.Ok for 2-3 hour ride. Drives more like a motorcycle.
Girl friend has a Honda Scoopy drives like scooter. 20 minutes ready to get off.
