Wasnt Strauss bought up in Perth and played there ? Mind you, its full of Boks, Poms anyway.

Im gob smacked Jack ! gob smacked

I wonder what our mate Boycott would have to say on that, after all, If you werent born in Yorkshire, u coldnt play there .

Im presuming he would still apply that same practice to the higher level ??

:-"

Methinks that the wine will be of a poor standard from Australia of 2011 vintage as the grapes seem rather sour there this year... :D
After all there was never a eyebrow raised the last time these players toured Australia as the England team...Oh that is right they lost 5-0 that time. Funny how the rules suddenly need changing & they are not an England team when they win... :D
I know that Australians have a reputation for playing (any) game hard & giving no quarter. It seems that defeat turns them into bigger whiners than they always claimed the Poms were. :D
Come on, no more searching for excuses...England have probably a rated third Test side & many Australian pundits were suggesting they would suffer another 5-0 drubbing. However they whooped your asses rather comprehensively, no excuses will hide the fact that there was nothing concerning luck about it... :D

Just when I thought we may have deflected the issue slightly with some gr8 comments back to Boycott etc, we have Herr Helm wading in with the truth again.

Next years whine will already be a disaster , as the rains from Qld flow down in the next few weeks. That rain was needed 2 months ago not now. ( no disrespect to those who have lost loved ones )

I still think the Pommie Qatar whine outshone the Aussie Qatar plonk.

Having said, that, im lookinmg forward to seeing a good 2012 show from the land of lawn bowls and rowing.

The Torpedo has started swimming again and mums the word on a come back.

Ashes Defeat Deflection Syndrome , clutching at any way to FIND A REASON FOR SUCH A DISGRACEFUL PERFORMANCE BY THEIR HEROES , only one way out BECOME BRITISH !!

Facts Bob, facts - make of it what you wish.

As for whining, of course we are (mainly) of British descent, so you could only conclude it is genetic.

Following the just concluded test series in Oz, and the SA v India series in SA, the ICC test rankings show the following:

1. India
2. South Africa
3. South Africa B
4. Sri Lanka
5. Australia
6. Pakistan
etc etc

First 20/20 today...
Australia batted first & ended their 20 with 157-4. So just under 8 an over, but well in hand on the wickets.
Watson top scored with 59..
England have set off like an express train - unfortunately derailed a couple of times already though.
They are 64 runs up for 5 overs - but have lost 3 wickets in the process. Pietersen just out for 25.

England required 1 run off the last ball. Result never in doubt, just teased the Ozzies into thinking they might win. :D

Well
Eng 158-9 (20 ovs) beat Australia (157-4) by one wicket
Last ball win with a 4 for 21 year old Woakes.
Closer than any of the tests but the same result as 3 of them... :D
In truth England should have made easy work of it. Morgan top scored for England with 43. Bowler Woakes really saw them through at the end though with a well struck 19.
Collingwood & Davies both disappointing...
Man of the match (well mine) was undoubtedly Watson who top scored in the game with a 59 (off only 31 balls to register at least a half decent score) & then took a remarkable 4 -14 with the ball....rumour has it he will be behind the stumps & bring on the drinks in the next game... :D
Certainly did not deserve to be on the losing side...

Second 20/20 match today..
This has been Englands sort of competition. They have set a world record of 8 wins on the trot....That went today though.
Australia batted first again & managed 147-7. As they were 80-5 at one time it was a fair recovery. Not a massive total in 20/20 terms, but it was a slow old pitch. New Aussie Finch was top scorer & not out at the end on a very creditable 53 off only 33 deliveries.
Swann & Yardy both managed 2 for 19 off 4. Shahzad went for 11 an over off 3 & Pietersen for 8.5 an over off 2.
Bell & Davies looked like they would win it on their own until Bell was out for 39 with the score on 60. Pietersen, Collingwood & Davies then all fell within 18 runs to hand the emphasis back to Australia. Morgan steadied the ship but the rate was dropping by then. England could still have won it off the last ball with a 6, but that was beyond them.
Waston continued his form with the ball (he only managed 17 with the bat this time) with a very tidy 2 for 17 off 4 overs. Johnson managed to take 3 for 29 off his 4.

So well done Australia as the series is even now at 1-1.

I was tempted to respond (which I have done), but refrained (or didn't :D ) on 2 grounds:

1. 20/20 means sweet fukc all

2. the Poms are, at the moment (choke, choke) much better than us.

But there is nothing more certain ( even more so than the sun will rise in the east) than the fact that the natural order will be restored sooner rather than later - and all you Poms know that to be a fact. :D

Disclaimer: PUTI, so will review in the a.m.

In a switch of codes (that I already had a go at wazza about :D ). I will say only this....that is exactly the same sort of argument (anyone can insert an expletive of their choice in place of that last word) that Liverpool supporters (at the top of the tree in the 1970s & 1980s ) said in 1991 ...2011 & still waiting.... :D :D

First one day (50 over) match today at Melbourne.
England won the toss & elected to bat. Test captain Strauss was back opening after ducking out of the 20/20s.
Looked like a good shout to bat when England reached 90 before the first wicket went down. The rest of the innings was rather up & down for the batting side.
Strauss went for 63 & Pietersen put in a performance & top scored on 78 before being run out. This England side are suppose to have a very competent & strong tail, but, with the exception of Bresnan who got 28 they certainly did not show it. In truth the got themselves into an amazingly strong position & then failed to capitalise as wickets fell too cheaply right at the time when runs were there for the taking. Yardy was brought in to replace Collingwood but had a Collingwood like display with the bat. He will have to field out of his skin & bowl like the devil to start the next game you feel. Tremlett was last man out with 2 balls still to bowl.
They ended up on 294 all out. Certainly a tidy score, but it could have been out of sight for Australia.
Nothing special to note about the Australian bowlers either though. They got wickets, but they were offered up rather than won. Hussy got 2 for 42 off 6 & Smith managed 2 for 12 off 3. Haddin had a poor day behind the stumps & missed at least 3 clear stumpings.

Australia have just won the first 1 day match against England.
Mainly thanks to a magnificent 161 not out by Watson. Everyone except Smith chipped in with a score. Although Clarke hung about a little for his 36 off 57 balls.
Finally got there with 5 balls remaining. Great effort to get nearly 300 batting second, however if the England batsman had batted anything like as well as Watson the chase should have been beyond them.
Plenty of thought for the England team before the next match.
Australia will be pleased with the batting performance but maybe will feel they almost let it get away from them before they started with their performance in the field...at least this is competitive... :D :D
