Yes, get a one year multi-entry VISA in America at the Thai Embassy. If you have a problem getting one, there is help for a fee, (ck Thai vista site).

Every 90 days you will need to leave the country, do some duty-free shopping and return. If played right that VISA will carry you for 15 months. Then return to america (sorry) and get a new one.

Do it for a year before selling off everything. Also might want to look into Malaysia.

WhoUrDaddy "why would you want to retired in Thailand at all, let alone Udon Thani. The country and Udon Thani would be one of the last places on earth I would consider retiring if I knew then what I know now.
Could you please elaborate? Perhaps someone like me will benefit from your observations. Thanks

He can't, he doesn't meet the requirements. He's 42 and not married.

Viper, when I made my original post I was assuming that you had enough money to retire. If I understand correctly that your 42 and you have 30 million baht I would have simply said you don't have enough cash. I mean no disrespect to you or others that have retired with less but for me I would never even consider it.
A million bucks could reasonably spit out 5 or 6 % a year averaged over time its simply not enough stroke given the state of the global economy. There is a good chance you will start drawing down your principal for the first five or so years of your retirement. Toss in the potential for a Thai wife or two and some less than "great" investment opportunities and you will be looking for a way to save your dignity. Keep working even if its a low paid job in Udon. Save more and most importantly continue to "earn" and get older so you have less time required to be relient on your nest egg.

If having a million USD, I wouldn't be here. The scams, the substandard everything, the hoops to jump threw, lack of abundant good woman, not much is inexpensive, lack or proper education facilities, and the ever present corruption that effect every aspect of life. Absolutely nothing of sports, culture, arts, and inability to voice you opinion.............the list is endless. Comparison to the USA, , the whole country is a sewer of pollution, substandard inter-structure. Lack of sufficient utilities, electric and water. Extremely substandard health care. Sorry, not enough bandwidth to continue. The only thing world class is the corruption and scams.

Currently the various governments are mounting campaigns to repatriate their citizens from Libya due to the current unrest there. Should we be petitioning Obama, et al, to mount a similar effort to repatriate these citizens who, apparently against their will, are being forced to endure living in Thailand? From reading some of these posts, there are obviously some people who absolutely hate living in Thailand but for some reason continue to live here. They hate the indigenous people, the women, the customs, the traffic, and lord knows what else. Whatever it is, they hate it, and warn any prospective expatriates from coming here.

Can something be done to get these poor unfortunates back to their homeland? Maybe a helicopter at the embassy?

As I assume he believes the proverbial will hit the fan in the USA, relatively soon (GTFO 2012), doesn't he think that his citizenship will keep him on the hook wherever he goes outside the USA? Has he plans to relinquish his citizenship due to what he perceives is coming? Unlike every other citizen of the world (except PI I believe) living outside the USA isn't going keep you immune to the coming financial turmoil back there.
The USD will fall and fall hard, I am confident of that. I have no intention of giving up my citizenship as I paid into social security and want to get my return on investment. I have little investment into the US economy besides my business, and that I can sell along with my inventory. I am well positioned in the event of a collapse and or serious decline in the Dollar. Your inclination from my avatar about 2012 of ---- hitting the fan is the end of Obama's rein of killing the Dollar and entitlement programs run wild. How this relates to the thread exactly is another story....

KHONDAHM I like you my friend, we should have a beer or coffee together when i am up there. Don't hate me because I am white-lol. I can't wait to be in a place where skin color does not matter. My own mother was turned off with my getting engaged to a Thai woman, but she married a black guy. The irony kills me-lol.

WhoUrDaddy I have been to a lot of countries, I think 15 or so and anyhow I just like Thailand is all :

mrgreen: it just seems free and open, sure some downsides like corruption, extra farang charge sometimes, dirty conditions, but the people just simply rock compared to Americans.

Muni As far as staying single, I have fun and if the right woman comes along I would settle down. As for finding my cats a nice home, I am loyal to the core and would never do that. When I make a commitment, I stick with it and I adopted them. I would never let them down and if came between me eating or my cats, I would feed my cats. It is responsible parenting and I chose to adopt and one thing you will all learn about me is that I am 100% to the core reliable ALWAYS. if I can't take up my responsibilities to my cats, how would I do in a relationship? I am an animal rescue guy and would get active in doing something there for sure I suppose out of my own pocket. I understand KISS too, so renting would be easier for me. The only downside would be improvements to the house.

tigerryan I have over 30 Million Baht, the money is not an issue. Even me taking 2 Million Baht a year in interest, I would still be BANKING money.

WhoUrDaddy Understand those aspects. I am a former bad guy in life that really changed his life near 120 years ago. if you met me now, you would think "wow, this guy is really honorable" and that would be true. I go to church on Sunday, I pray, do the right things in life, do a lot of charitable acts and such and make a great friend. Before however, I was engaged in some serious criminal activities long ago before I went to Wharton and for years. That said, I am street wise yet can quickly vacillate to academia and the world of niceties. I have to ask myself, with all due respect why you are there if you do not appreciate Thailand based on your posts? I do like to complain sometimes, I will admit that, but as much as I do not appreciate the USA I am actively looking to move.

JimboLV ROFL, my thoughts exactly!

Sht, man - we gotta hook up. I don't drink alcohol, but my wife makes some mean fruit shakes. You could probably gather from my past posts on various subjects that we are pretty much carbon copies. Send a PM when ya like. I'll invite you over for chicken and watermelon (lol!). We can piss each other off over politics and social issues and maybe find some place to shoot some pool and swap stories about your mom and my sister doing the same things! I've another local Southern buddy peer who also is a misinformed and misguided Fox News fanatic. You two could gang up on me and I'd still crush ya with facts. :)

I fail to see what Thailand offers a relatively young and good looking rich man that has some many fun interests in the USA!

Well don't see why not, for thats what I did about 7 years ago. I guess I was a lot older and not married, but for sure neither age or being married was a requirement back then. Not up on things, but don't recall any change, for "multi-entry VISA" in your Home country.

Well maybe things have changed since then...
Non-Immigrant Visa

Non-immigrant visas will not be issued for such purposes as tourism, visiting friends, visiting fiancé/fiancée, seeking employment opportunities, looking for a school for teaching or studying purposes, etc.

The Consulate will consider the application on a case-by-case basis and may ask for additional documents.

well personally I would not be getting info from a in country web site, but one in home country. It use to be that the web site in Hull (UK) had a lot of info and they would answer your emails. Think it is up to Gary to do the research, I just gave him a possible option.

This is a no win argument.

1. The website is The Los Angeles Thai consulate.
2. Gary is a US citizen, the Hull consulate would serve him no purpose, besides they recently changed it's rules.
3. Your option only provides misinformation, trying doing a little research before offering advise.
