Home cooked breakfast:

2 lg #0 eggs.......... 4 baht
100 gr bacon ........ 19 baht
50 gr ham.......... 20 baht
home fries ........ 10 baht
ex lg boncafe coffee 10 baht
2 toast, butter, jam 5 baht

cooked to perfection, served hot, not burnt, in the comfort of your own home, less than 70 baht, a filling meal. better than any meal available anywhere served for 150 baht and up. no driving, no fuel spent, no parking hassle, no tip, no distraction, no smoke, no noise. Simply roll out of bed and prepare. So why pay for for someone to mess it up.

Well, since you asked I'll reply. The breakfast at the City Lodge (the ones I've enjoyed) is served hot and it is not burnt. I park right in front or the side; maybe a 5 meter walk inside. Distraction?? none so far. Smoking not allowed inside. Noise?? not really sure what you mean but nothing so far that I consider unwanted noise.

In 6 years of living in Udon full-time I've never cooked a meal. I live on over 1 rai with a lot of grass and trees; I've never cut the grass or trimmed the trees. I've never washed my car(s). My maid and wife clean the house. I retired here to let someone else do the work so my time is free for doing whatever I want; even if the 'whatever' is doing nothing at all. I am amazed that someone actually knows the prices of bacon, ham, home fries, etc. as I also don't go shopping for such things; that's the wife's job.

I guess we all view things differently but I can't imagine doing mundane tasks here when labor is so cheap; one of the reasons to retired here!

It cost 50 baht for a haircut here but I'm betting there are some CC's that save that too.

120baht for a well cooked tasty meal that keeps me going for most of the day is good value as far as I'm concerned.

I wear a ball and chain to the supermarket, though can manage because we also eat out virtually every meal, and that included breakfasts.

All the above replies have their merits, one way or another, it's simply a personal choice of mine not to pay 100 % mark-up for one of the easiest meals of the day to make, and before I prepare and plan for my day's outing. As far as the shopping, well that has to be done anyway, and the cooking and dishes, bless her, after 20 yrs, I think she's gotten it right. Don't do beans, tomatoes, unless whipped up in an omelet, prefer spanish with own salsa. Also make my own "Jimmy Dean Sage Sausage", as cumberland is the best I can find, but not consistant, starting to get more grizzle and bone than I prefer. Of course the best for last, the company of my loved one enjoying the same, in her naked self, contemplating what to do after digested and showered. Possible a Nooner, LOL.

Nothing against a fine brekkie out at one of the finer dining experiences. The BookHouse has a fine choice of filling meals, but I prefer breakfast at home. Enjoy yours as much as I do mine,

last I spend a lot off money on breakfast, I was going to the huge centara hotel breakfast buffet, very great breakfast, eat all what you can, and drink all the coffee or Thee or juice you want

all this for 180 baht - good value for money


some ask, what is the value off these farang breakfast - I answer, what would the price be, if the place was run by a thai or vietnam

but up to you, great we have a lot off choice

many farang go to thai restauran but no thai go to farang restaurant WHY !!!!!!!!!

The new German/Italian restaurant in Ban Dung had more Thais than farangs last night - and it was full.

Ref Thais visiting farang restaurants and the like .

I can only comment accurately on Chern Chim but approx 10% of the eat in food is by Thai patrons visiting alone or with other Thais ....., this doesnt include Thai ladies coming with their farang husbands/boyfriends and also the deliveries we do to the Post office , hospitals , a couple of banks and the Immo office .. all this is consumed by Thais ....BTW quite a lot of this trade is due my missus contacts NOT my charm wit and sophistication , however its a welcome side to the business i never thought would be there .... and it seems the Thais just love a sausage sub , bacon roll and pies whether it be chicken or apple variety...........with or without khao neow.

Gluttony, Not Just For Americans: BK Launches 'Meat Monster' in Japan

Japanese Burger Kings are about to “double down” a new burger that wants to make veganism passé.

The burger consists of two hamburgers, a chicken breast, two slices of cheese and three slices of bacon – with just a few veggies, of course, to balance it out. It also comes with lettuce, tomatoes and onion.

Want some personalization? To make it worse, customers can douse the thing down in teriyaki sauce, add an egg, or give it extra-human strength with a fish patty.

To match, this monster will pummel your stomach with a whopping 1,160 calories without all the fixings. A normal Whopper, in comparison, has only about half the calories. We won't even talk about the Pizza Burger, which dwarfs the beast at 2,520 calories.

The Meat Monster might be a Japan-only creation, like McDonald's Ebi Filet-O. And if you're wondering what that is, imagine a fish filet, but stuffed with shrimp.

Thankfully out of reach, we'll be safer from further increasing the rate of heart attacks in the States. You don't need to super-size the fries and drink with this doozy of a burger.

Yeah. I know. We are corrupting the dietary habits of the world. But, the world seems to be "lovin' it".
No one is forcing anyone to eat anything.

Back to breakfast...some enjoy cooking it at home, some prefer going out. Some prefer Western, some prefer Asian. Up to them.

"stupid not smiling waitress", I'll take a stab at that one. An intelligent waitress would smile and extend some type of salutation if expecting any type of tip. Customer service isn't rocket science, well at least for some. Though here I find many that it is quite a challenge. Maybe a different profession may serve their needs better.

We Italian, for breakfast, only look for a good espresso coffee and when possible a tiny piece of cake. We know that a full brakfast would be better but cannot change habit after sixty years.

Couldn't agree more. Great breakfast at the Bookhouse, I've had it a few times. I like the City Lodge because they're currently running a 'low season' special and the large breakfast is 120 baht; plus I've known the current managers for 6 years. Although I don't consider myself a CC I do look for value and a bit of savings when it presents itself.

I'm a bit ashamed of myself though. Had the breakfast (again) this morning at the CL; first time in years I couldn't clean the plate.......had to leave one of the sausages

Every italian knows what a "FriTTata "is but in our menu we call it with the french name of an open Omelette and as you can see ,we make it with spinach,potatoes cheese and tomatoes. It can be cooked with butter or olive oil.
