Stayed there and just left. CREDIBILITY ISSUE HERE and I stayed there to possibly purchase this resort and frankly as a potential buyer OR a person going to this resort I would not recommend this place. As an acive member on this forum I feel an obligation to say this and have thought this post through before posting, but the go down the same road to post this up for the benefit of others. When one loses credibility business dealings become moot for me personally.bamboo garden wrote:We are a small family run guesthouse/resort,20 minutes from udonthani airport or city center,we have been open for 16 year and have a good persentage of occupancy all year around, more infomation please visit http://www.udonmap.com/bamboogarden

I think my post was sufficient to anyone looking to purchase or stay at the resort despite few typos on my part. If you are considering either to purchase or stay at the resort, I would elaborate on that for you or anyone else but suffice to say, you have been warned by my personal experience. Again, I say that as an active member of this forum to avoid any headaches later. One thing I have learned using forums is they serve a wonderful purpose of disseminating information and in my case it is not he said she said, it is my personal observations and I wish to save others from a negative experience. While my posts on here currently number just 47 as I type this, I have shown myself to be credible, educated and honest in my opinion and met many good folks on here and it is these experiences that give me a sense of duty to protect the community by posting a response to this classified ad. If you are not looking to stay or buy the place, no need to elaborate and if you are moving toward either despite my warning, then as the Thais say "up 2 you". Anyone thinking of parting with 6.5 mi for these premises would be doing their homework and checking out the facilities themselves. You do not explain what the problems are that you found only to say it was your personal experiences to put this advertiser down. Can you be more specific and share your grievance? If not let the guy sell his gaff.

I hate it when someone complains and wont say what their complaint was. For me, it makes them lose all credibility. After all if someone says they dont like somewhere but wont give a reason, doesnt that seem a bit strange?

Yep, and as usual, just another Farang claiming he's smarter than an I PHONE, dissatisfied with a cheque bin, can't pay it, trying to discredit one of our most well known and honest Udon 16 year Veteran citizens with a near perfect record. Pathetic.DermotC wrote:I hate it when someone complains and wont say what their complaint was. For me, it makes them lose all credibility. First, I am not a geezer if you are insinuating that I am old as I am 42 and certainly in good physical condition. Why you feel a need for a personal attack on me Pompui is unwarranted-simply put I feel a duty to post a warning to others and I believe any reason ble reader will concur regarding my observations after I explain. It is incumbent on us as forum members to share information and in addition to “doing their homework and checking out the facilities themselves” a forum visit where this is advertised is practical. If I saw a problem and did not post it up and someone spent $6.5 Million could I sleep easily knowing that I did not post? Certainly not and hence my post to help other members on this forum and isn’t this what this forum is meant to do to help each other out? That said, I will put up details as requested and yes I did deal with them by citing my concerns and disagreements. Luckily I make good money and the money is not the issue, but rather the principle here.pompui wrote:Aard,do not worry, just spoken to the owners since they know the geezer who has just left, the owners are not active members and I have read the posts to them. They would be happy to say their side of the story to anyone interested, just pop into the resort or better still if this geezer had a problem with the final bill, then this geezer should have dealt with it at the timeAardvark wrote:Could you expand on "Credibility Issue" ?? Statement of facts:
We called and inquired as to availability of rooms for rent after seeing the ad on Udonmap. We were told there was rooms available for from April 25 to May 8 at 450 Bht a night. When we arrived at Udon, we were met by a Thai female employee and not the owners and told an upgraded place was available at 700 Bht. After seeing the upgraded place which was a small 3 bedroom place with a kitchen and living room area that was furnished we agreed to take it. Within 1 minute after the agreement (which we did not ask for any discount because frankly I thought it was fair), it was then stated that it did not include electric and electric was extra. I asked how much electric was and it was stated that it was “very little” and I probed more to get some quantitative number as I never heard of a hotel/resort ever charging for electric in my life for a 2 weeks stay and I am a well traveled individual. We then probed the employee more and were told maybe 50 Bht a day or really small. We said okay, were led to the owner a Thai woman named Niyom who is the owner and I then again personally asked how much the electric was and was told that 600 Bht should cover the 2 weeks fine, but it might be a little more or less. I told her if it was less, she could keep the exchange and I paid her in full cash cash for the entire stay. We were given a receipt with the amount paid, the dates we were staying and the electric meter current reading, but not any per Bht charge on the bill nor were we verbally told how much the per unit cost. I did not think anything of it at the time except it seemed strange.
The next day, I met Frank, Niyom’s husband and he expressed concern that I was running the air conditioning unit and at one time two of the 3 units. He said (paraphrased) “I know you are paying the freight on the electric, but the electric can be more than the price of the rental” Since I have been in Thailand for over 2 months and I pay the monthly electric bill for my Fiancee every month on a full house, I do know how much the electric costs for her house that I pay for and it is 500 Bht a month. I told him that we were told it was not that much and he more or less said that he does not handle the business part it was his wife. I mentioned it was not much electric and he said they were high BTU units and that they eat a lot of electric. Keep in mind this is a small square footage place and not a palatial estate not to knock it, and stating this to give an idea that this is not a place where one encounters a huge electric bill. I rented a beautiful place at Udon Star that was nearly the same size as the entire place at Bamboo for 750 Bht a day including breakfast for two and we ran the AC unit nearly 24/7 and I say that as a point of reference, Again, the ONLY reason I stayed there was to possibly purchase the place and see it firsthand. Since Frank was not privy to any of the conversations when booking the place whatsoever, it was good to get on the same page from the beginning.
We wanted to have something cooked as there is a restaurant advertised, but we were told on day 1 that that we could not as the person that cooked was away. As a business owner I understand some things happen and just rolled with it and went to Tesco. At Tesco we spent over 3000 Bht and stocked the fridge with food. We then hit the local place that was always very nice across the street and purchased a lot of water and a few beers. Had I known about the problems coming with electric and subsequent issues, I would not have done this.
I went to see Niyom about the electric and then we were informed (this is day #2) that the electric is 10 Bht a unit. I expressed this was not a good situation as we were told it was not that much money and higher than stated. I also said that should have been on the bill in writing that it is 10 Bht a unit. After all, with the OP’s “<has> a good persentage of occupancy all year around” they would know what the bill was and 600 BHt was not nearly enough to cover a 2 week stay even with the AC units off all the time. I put a post up on Udon Map WITHOUT NAMING the place for opinions and the consensus was clear that this sounded like a scam. For me, I figured just pay it and be done with the palace plain and simple. This was credibility issue #1. The Internet connection was out and was out for some time when we arrived and after talking with Frank he purchased another modem and had to get the DSL folks out and anyhow he got it up and running the next day. I also offered to look at it sicne I own a computer company and I am a technical guru when it comes to computers. That also showed me that this place did not have much business, but then again this is Thailand and some folks do not use wireless when traveling. The entire time we were there, there was one other guest for 1 night clearly we were the only guests and not the “good persentage of occupancy all year around” as described. The place rents the pool out by the hour at 30 Bht an hour and the traffic of children was worth noting and for paying for a resort, a polo with high traffic is not something you want. Additionally, the place is advertised on Udon map as “Bamboo is very quiet” http://www.udonmap.com/bamboogarden/ The grounds are well groomed and done nicely and something worth noting-again I am trying to be fair here and not bashing. On average I would say 10 children a day while we were there, and all were mannerly however did not afford us much privacy in the pool area. It is apparent to me in the two weeks that this is an ongoing concern verified by an employee there however it does inhibit guest experience. Again guest experience issue and effects credibility of the sale when looked at comprehensively with other factors.
At this point I would have checked out on day 3 three but we had the food stocked and also I anticipated a possible issue getting money back on the unused portion of our agreement based on what I had seen. I honestly just figured I would wait it out. At no time was Frank or his wife nasty or the like to me and Frank was kind enough to offer his DVD’s to watch which I did accept. The place I would not have posted had it been for the check out issue, and just kept it under the rug. Again, what type of person on an internet forum for an area would keep a really negative or positive experience to himself-how will that benefit the community?
At approximately a week into the stay, I had two guests come to visit me. We met and I offered them a water and a beer from my refrigerator and Frank openly within distance insinuated that I order the beer and water from him. I ask if he preferred me to order from him and he said he had a restaurant. To me it was very petty and frankly we were sitting outside and a restaurant is a restaurant to me and it seemed very petty to me. My opinion is if I have a guest I can offer my guest anything I want from my stash, I am renting a 3 bedroom hotel and the sheer pettiness is absurd to me personally. What are we talking about 10+20 Bht here? Speaking of which here: http://moreudon.forummotion.com/t423-ba ... i-thailand 5 days ago I can get the same place for 10,000 Bht MONTHLY rate and we were charged 11,400 Bht for 2 weeks. Am I being cheap Charlie? NO, I am talking about misrepresentation on many levels here least alone is the electric bill, the place is private, restful, has full occupancy, et cetera. I could sneeze that money and came here to look at a few businesses. Get a STAND UP guy like Lee selling Udonmap, I can say so much about his integrity in dealing with him and he has my trust as he has shown credibility across the board along with transparency. Without credibility, I will not close a deal and here it was lost from the first few days and went downhill. This is my opinion and if it saves you money or time looking fine and if not and you are clinging on personalities so be it. Personal attacks again you can save as I think I have been a stand up guy to post this of my own volition and I am not angry so much as disappointed as I feel ripped off.
We asked for the bill or rather I did, upon checking out and offered about 1500 Bht in food that was not eaten. Upon checking out, we were met with a “bill” for a meal that we paid for previously. At two different times, we were told to pay the next time for the meal as it was late or inconvenient to pay for the meal. We paid and reconciled the bill on the next time and the food was fine on each and every occasion. I also tipped in the 20-25% range too. Upon checking out, we were met with an alleged bill for food that was a week old and I openly disagreed as I had settled any outstanding bill each subsequent time and I am very good with records and function as the accountant in my corporation. I went back and forth over it as it was not a valid bill frankly and it was going nowhere. I am mild mannered except when really pressed and just paid it and walked/ This was the tipping point of the situation at the hotel for me.
As for my education, I am Magna come Laude from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and I am a multimillionaire and have been since my 30’s so insinuating that I am destitute shows poor character-what if I was does that lower my credibility? You can Google me if you wish and see I am in the Wall Street Journal, a published author, and anyhow if you had your due diligence done you would have at least seen my previous posts to see I am near retired at 42 years of age and could easily retire at 42 in Thailand. I am also an Ebay seller with $ Million USD in sales and near $2 Million in profits so Thaitanium again think before you post after you do your homework. Do I think I am better than anyone else? Not at all, but personal attacks on me or my integrity are unwarranted. I would dare anyone to say anything off color to me or my fiancée to my face here as I have made no personal attacks so please if you want to man up and go toe to toe, I could take on the best in here so keep up the keyboard commando assaults if you can and will back it up in person to my face. I am not hard to find, so if you want to talk smack man up and stand up to my face and if not get back to my post and go to the merits of my post. My credibility you cannot attack and asking for information is warranted, but dog piling on me to discredit my post is incorrect let alone the personal attacks since few people on here know me. The few people that do know me can attest that I am credible and also a stand up guy. In fact, forum members I would think should be grateful that I brought this to the surface so someone does not get ripped off going forward. I do not expect accolades, but potentially saving someone from wasting money should not me met with personal assaults. I am staying at the Concorde Swiss in Bangkok and just laid out $21=K Bht for 3 days and never blinked and spent 300K Bht on a single night in a hotel before, so before you judge me as being cheap think it through. I am a man of principle and also a person of my word and I posted on an open forum where I saw the advertisement in an effort to save others a headache in staying in and or buying this facility. I am typing this as a quick note so if there is a syntax error or the like or some grammatical anomaly you will hopefully get the idea. If anyone is scared to type the truth about a place or event for the benefit of others on this forum, then I challenge you to think of what you are here for-entertainment? I am here for knowledge and grateful to have meet some very nice folks here and obtain a plethora of information that otherwise would have cost me a fortune in tuition-touche’ case in point. Gary

Just to reiterate, since you now know from my previous post they are not active members,I will ask them tomorrow about your response and if have time to print it off and if passing their way will drop it off.Maybe just easier to tel them, numbers at the top.
They can then discuss your obvious differences, but makes sense to complain about anything while staying at the time instead of leaving and then posting IMHO.
Who was it that you were speaking to via your laptop a few days before checking out when walking around the resort saying what a lovely place this was, look at the pool etc?

Jesus H Christ Gary, It took me about 10 minutes to get through that drivel you wrote.
Ok, firstly if you had made your point properly on your first post, nobody would have questioned you but you chose to make a post without any back up to your point. You, as an educated person, Im sure can appreciate that!
Secondly, THIS IS THAILAND (TIT). You obviously have no idea how things work here. 15 degrees, masters, doctorites in whatever subject doesnt make any difference here. Amazing with all your knowledge and alledged millions in the bank, you seem to have ZERO COP ON (Common Sense). So I would say to you, you are better off staying in the States where your every whim can be taken care of. TIT and Thailand is not your country, you would do well to remember you are a guest here, end of!

The issue of add ons, sic electricity etc can be a trap for guests and when confronted with the add ons for the first time can be challenging to the guest. Perhaps the sponsors through the insistence of Udonmap advertising department, include the additions ie VAT, electricity and or other incidentals when placing business profile on the forum
As for Dermot's supercilious response, go back and read his recent post regarding restaurant times in Udon. Grandstanding in one breath, demanding that restaurants conform to his dining times and supreme understanding of how things work in Thailand the next. 2000VIPERGTS l would take Dermot's contribution with a grain of salt.

why didnt the resort include the electricity in the per night cost,i understand if you were staying months but 2 weeks, the resort should have just charged him 1000 baht instead of 700 baht plus electricity that way the guest doesnt feel someone is trying to scam them.

While hes doing that TT, he should go back and read the drivel that you have been contributing since Joining. At least I actually live here which gives me a better insight into Thailand than somebody sitting in his armchair in Australia!

I rent out houses and apartment in both Udon, Hua Hin and Cha Am. If i rent of per day, the electric is allways included in the rent, thats it!
If i rent out on long term rent, that means a minimum of 1 mounth, i allways excluded the electric and cover the electric coasts etc in the deposit.......
In all what i can read in Garys critic is that he has a bad experience from his rental in the resort named in here. I can not see that he is doing something bad when he share his experience whit us on the forum. I been on this forum for many years and sometimes i share some of my experiences here to, both god and bad ones.
The critic sounds very well documented by Gary and it looks like he had some ruff days in this resort. Its up to the owner of this kind of businesses to take critics from customer and learn from that.....any way.....thats how i done my business.
All that other crap, about this is Thailand and so on.....and talk bad about people, i dont think that will develop the business for the named resort. That sounds more like an excuse to put dirt under stones. I dont buy ---- like that!
Regards Kjell

The owners have asked me to post a final message on this thread that they would just like to reconfirm that they are not active members and therefore cannot post in response to remarks made by 2000vipergts.Their contact number is on the front page for potential buyers should they wish to discuss about what has been posted then they are most welcome to answer. The running of the business by any potential buyer, when they take over,is of course their own business. They would be happy to send via email further pictures of the resort but in the meantime, anyone is welcome to call in and see the business at first hand.
