Identity cards for 7-15 year olds .
Haven't seen any mention on here so thought I would give a heads up . The government brought in compulsory registration for all kids 5-15 earlier this year. Previously it wasn't required until they were 16 years old .Well the grace period to get this done expires end of this month, after which you are liable to a fine .You need to get this done at your local amphur .

Well I must admit I can't find anything in English to confirm it. My info came from a visit to my local Amphur yesterday, when I observed a tent set up outside and a queue of people having their kids photographed. When I asked the boss man, that's what he told me .However I may be wrong so when I go over there tomorrow I will ask again .phen wrote:Hello Trubrit,

Hi,
Wifes yougest child is 12. Have not heard about this but will ask the wife, when she gets back from work, this evening. As far as i was informed, she has to get a I.D. card when she reaches her sixteenth year. If the wife has not heard of this i will get her to phone the I.D. place to find out if this is correct. I would have though, something important, like this, would have been broadcast on Thai radio and T.V.. Childrens looks change a lot between the age of five to 16. So it is likely they will have to get a new I.D. card every few years, more work and money for the gov..

My wife heard something about it on the TV. They were discussing extending it down below age 15. Though she can't be sure of the dates or ages. She thought it was 7, but if Trubrit was told age 5 then that sounds like it.

Knew I wouldn't sleep tonight till I had straightened this out ,so got dressed and popped into Amphur , its only next door anyway .Firstly let me apologise its from 7years old not 5 , perhaps a kindly mod would change the topic title for me to avoid misleading. Having spoken to the dept head who is in charge of this who showed me the order from the Ministry of the Interior, which with my limited Thai reading ability I didn't understand, so I can only report what she told me it said . Apparently Abhissit made a decree in April last year ordering all Thai citizens from the age of 7 up to 70 must be in possession of an identity card by July this year. However due initially to a delay in producing new cards and now they have them , to the sheer volume of work involved in issuing them, they are running rather late. They have started giving them out but she tells me they are unlikely to be able to do them all by that date .So she doubts if any penalty would be imposed for non compliance .They are not publicising the issue as they don't want to be flooded by applications just yet . So in summary. All children from their 7th birthday must have an ID card. This must be obtained within 60 days of their 7th anniversary or a fine of 500 bht will be charged. The card will be renewed every 5 years as normal, with new photos . Upon reaching the ripe old age of 70 it is no longer necessary to have a card.Sorry for any confusion, hope its now clearer . :roll

Thanks Trubrit for the quick response.
My family and neighbors don’t know anything from this.
Normally you expect schools will tell about this new rule.
But I live long enough in Thailand that nothing surprises me anymore.
Thank you again and sleep well.

The issuing of I.D. cards for children living in Udon will be done by the schools they attend.

Due to the hot demand, the Tessaban has extended its hours for this service effective today. M-F 0830-1600, 1630-2000; Sat & Sun 0830-1600. Note, due to the damage in the Tessaban from last year, this service is in their temporary office (UD Provincial Admin) across Tung Sri Muang from the damaged Tessaban.

A letter from our son's school stated that we needed to send his original and 1 copy of his birth certificate and his page in the family book to school with him on Thursday...The pictures, etc will be done there...Not sure whether the cards will be given out then or laterSaboo wrote:trubrit wrote:That may be because you get them from Amphur not City Hall .Well out here at Nong wau Sor you do .mak wrote:Udon Tessaban is not issuing these ID cards at this time.
