hotel warning

just thought i would let everyone know about my stay at MAUMI PLACE hotel,
i booked in and have stayed one month,it's not a bad hotel but last week my wife 2 bt gold bracelet went missing in the room.
it's a small hotel and the only people that could have done it is the cleaning staff, well we went and told the owner who pretty much told us we are lieing and told us to get lost!!
so we went to the police who were very helpful and went straight to the hotel to interview the staff, no one owned up so have to take the loss!
after this we checked out then i got my next supprise, the room was 6000 per month plus power and water.
Me and my wife didnt use the aircon much never used the tv and only had showers, the bill came to 2000 bt!!!
My wifes mum and her family use about 150bt for water per month and about 300- 500 for power
be carefull staying at this place

its always very easy and convenient to accuse hotel staff of stealing, when there easily good be other explanations too.
many times it happened in my career in hotels, that the cleaning staff got accused of stealing by guests which had mislaid there stuff.
so i would be very careful by what i post on an internet forum

how do you misplace a 47000bt gold bracelet?
if someone else went in to the the room im sure they would have taken the 2 laptop computers and many other valuable stuff that were there?
they had a new staff member start 2 days before it happened and they would not give her name to the police.
The most thing i am pissed off at is the way the owner treated us, we have no reason to make it up as it's my wife's gold and she has not got travel insurance.

If i was going to leav an 47,0000 gold braclet in my room, i think i would stay at a place with at least a room safe to put it in.

While I agree with the sentiments expressed, the OP did do the right thing went to the police and they ( not unusually ) were unable to find the culprit.
Posting about the Hotel and its activities in relation to overcharging for Electric and Water is understandable also the way the owner treated his customers, however then highlighting that due to an oversight an expensive bracelet has been stolen but NOT other attractive items , makes none think, it is also dangerous as the Hotel must have full details of the OP and his partner accusing publicly a Hotel Staff without a shred of evidnece is unwise. keep to the proven facts the rest as they say is history and a learning curve.

when we know the room was getting cleaned we made sure everything was under lock and key.
but on this day the room was cleaned without us knowing, so we did't hide some things.
Which happed to be the day the new girl started, the owneres husband didn't even have a clue what days the rooms where cleaned or by who, and of course the hotel has no cameras.
I dont see what problem is from some posters here?

Perhaps that is why this gentlemen has the gold that he has described and you leave loose change on the table.

innercircle, what you are experiencing here is what I call "the Inspector Clouseau" investigative research team of the forum. These folks, who are not always the same folks each time, very often try to convince posters that what they experienced was NOT what they experienced -- even though they weren't there to witness any of it or know all of the information. They very often tell you what you should wear, how you should act, etc. They are also the same people who will argue with a stop sign or a traffic signal. If it is red, they will claim that it should be green -- and vice versa. There are also some who are just bored retirees and cannot fathom that others don't think exactly as they think.

In other words, as we say in the US, "Blow it off and don't worry about it." You were there. You know what happened, and I appreciate your sharing it.

Interesting to note that on the other forum is a post which purports to come form the owner of the hotel who states his wife speaks passable English, judging by the comments it would seem he either has no knowledge or seems to ignore what has occurred. obviously a place to miss it would seem.

You may not like this comment, but it is a quite normal scam for the thai wife to hide the gold herself and go to sell it later.

Then she pretends it has been stolen, in the next week or so she will be pulling on your heart strings for a new one.

This is thailand!!!! Happens all the time!!!!

Note the above comment is aimed as a generalisation, not directed specifically at the OP or his wife.

Regards

Kev

Good observation. I've known this to happen, not to myself but I know of one Brit staying in Top Mansion that his girl pulled this on him. He didn't fall for it and she is no longer his girlfriend.
