Recent experience shipping items from the US

If using FedEx or UPS, you will run the risk of having the shipment stopped in BKK and paying a very healthy customs fee. For two small boxes less than a meter square each, the total was 36,000 baht for personal items consisting of used clothes and shoes. Had it not been for the fact that I require sizes that are difficult to find in Udon, I would have allowed the boxes to sit there.

Since that time, my experiences with the USPS has been very good.

Items shipped International Express via USPS are supposed to reach their destination in 3 to 5 days. If shipped to my name and to my PO box in Udon, the items were held up in BKK, and it took a month to finally receive them.

Items shipped International Express via USPS shipped to a Thai national and to their residence arrived in 5 days. This will be the shipping method of choice each and every time.

As with everything else, everyone's experiences will vary.

Thanks for the heads up. I doubt anyone will sensibly comment on this or offer any help on this site. I'm still waiting for a reply for my post in Udon Thani / Thailand Post & Courier details I put in 1 month ago. All somebody suggested that If I wanted to send stuff from LOS tho Cambodia, take it to Cambodia. Good luck!

Two things, firstly I'm quite sure that everyone who has read Ricohocs post will understand that he is giving his experience relating to shipping goods, and is giving out advice that could be useful to others. I don't think he's looking for any particular response - he's just sharing information.
Secondly, Deacz9, it is an impossible task to answer a question that you have no idea about. I think you will find if someone had the answer to your question they would have given it to you. If I was you I would give up waiting for a reply to your post.

It's likely that not many members send stuff from Udon to Cambodia. I'd think the best way to get an answer to your question would be to ask an expat who lives in Cambodia. You could also inquire at the post office.

I had the exact same thing happen to me a couple of years ago when I used fed-ex to send clothing that would not fit in my suitcases. They started out asking for 25,000 baht but after two days of going back and forth with them they settled for 9,000 baht. Since then I have had my relatives use regular U.S. mail to send things to me and only once out of six time did the Thai post office ask me for a custom fee and that was only 600 baht for a large box of clothing.

I was looking into the idea of shipping a motorbike from Thailand to NZ, and return. I came across a crowd just the other day called the Asia Trading Company, who send items worldwide, even seel empty shipping containers and things..perhaps Deacz9 they can be of assistance..just google..

Logipost in Thailand can ship motorbikes around Thailand, so perhaps they may do Cambodia and post /ship other items..

Thanks maaka, I'll check them out next time. I used EMS in the end to send a load of bike parts right to the south of Cambodia, about 4kg cost 750bt and happy to report all arrived safe and untampered with. With a bit of luck and when LOS and Cambodia stop throwing each others toys out of their prams I might be able to send stuff regularly, there may even be a buck or two to be made or at least a few beers, I know afew folk living long term in Cambodia need good stuff, ie funiture, tools that Thailand has but no easy low expense way of getting it.
