Thai language Electronic Translators

I am still a beginner at learning Thai language. In the meantime, I am thinking of buying an electronic translator.
Does anyone have experience with these? What kinds are good and bad?
What features are needed
I want to be able to type in an English word and get the Thai word and the opposite
Common phrases would be helpful also.
Prices and best places to buy?

Bought one in Udon from bookshop in central Plaza, it's a "CyberDict2 advance" size of a small calculator, does Thai to English and English to Thai has audio so you can pronouce words also. about £50, there are more expensive ones that do more, but this seems to cover all that we want..

Hi,
Bought my daughter a talking dict. for uni. Works very good and you can hear the words, as they should be said. Daughter says it is very good. Depends what sort you want, Many diffrent sorts of the beast, and this is what the cost is based on. ie colour screen or black and white, wither it can take a memory card. I think this is a good thing as you can get many different cards, for say French, German etc. and other things, and you can also use it for showing photos, or videos. Not my cup of tea, but the daughter likes it.
It's alright saying use google translater. This will not work if you do not have a phone with the internet on, and the cost involved. So i've been led to delieve. Don't fancy carrying my computer around. IMO it is cheaper and better to get a Talking Dict. as they are called. i myself use a phone, as a phone was meant to be used, so do not pay thousands of B for one. My Nokia cost about 800B 3 years ago. Works great as a phone.

You can buy an app for smart phones that resides in the phone ie it is independent of an internet/phone connection.

The cost (according to the website) is $20 - I am seriously looking at it.

There appears to be a number of Android Apps for Smart Phones that are English - Thai Translators available online. This one is AUD$3.85 (approx THB120) and maybe worth considering given it is inexpensive and probably for the beginner/traveller as it is romanised.

I would be most interested to hear from anyone who is using a Smart Phone Android App as an English - Thai translator. Then again ...I should not be so kee neow and fork out 120 Baht and try this one

I think that's logicak nstead of wasting money on some trslators to use free smartphone app. There are really lots of them today that allow to translate and to voice the text.
