Udon Thani FC

I fancy going to watch the local team but have spent hours trawling the net looking for the fixtures as I hear the season starts on saturday. I eventually found a site that said they were at home to Yasathon but no kick off time.Then I found another site saying the games were postponed untill the 26th because of the heat

Anybody been to watch them ? Can give directions to the ground or have a reliable fixture list ?

I was amazed when in Loie a few weeks ago to see dozens of Loie FC car stickers (and even seen a couple in Udon), but I've never in all my time in Udon seen an Udon Thani FC sticker. The two teams both play in Division 2 North East, so I would have expected to see the same sort of support here.

Udon Thani FC have changed their website address to http://www.udonthanifc.net/ . The site is in Thai but Google Translate will give you a ham-fisted idea of what's going on.

Home games kick off at 4pm.

Their ground is at Udon Thani’s Institute of Physical Education Football Stadium and the best way I can describe to get there is this:

Turn into Pracha Raksa Road (from Srisuk Road) and travel past the Napalai Hotel (on your left) until you reach the main highway road at the very end. The Institute of Physical Education Football Stadium is about 50 yards left.

The ground has a capacity of just over 2,000 and matchday tickets for the season just ended were 40 baht.

My son is currently having trails with Udon fc , he has done ok and is due to train with the juniors starting in December , i have met the president /owner of the club who is quite a well known chap , nice fella i have pointed out how many farangs would like to follow the club but little or no promotions are in English etc and that i MHO the club is crying out to be bought by a rich sydicate or similar same as Buriram PA was ,,,,,,,, now look at then 20,000 plus gates etc ,,, hes abit stuck in his ways but i think he listened ............. MAYBE NOT .

Just a correction. Newin Chidchob did not buy Buriram PA. He bought the top team in the Thai premier league, lock stock and barrel, whose name escapes me for now, and renamed them as his home team. That's why you have two teams carrying the Buri Ram logo .They play at a magnificent 24,000 seater stadium named Thunder Castle which is sponsored by I Mobile . Some may remember Khun Newin as the parliamentarian banned from office for corruption. Are you really suggesting Udon Town should find someone like him?

Quick addendum. My son has just woken up who has been a supporter of the now called Buriram Pea for many years and has filled me in on the details .When it was constantly top of the Thai premier league it was known as Gung Faifa and operated from a stadium in Ayutthaya. It started as a team consisting of employees of the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) and those who speak Thai will know, Faifa is electric company .They were the Man U of Thai football, constantly top, or near, for many years. In 2010 Newin bought them , the whole team, changed their shirts, renamed them and moved the whole package to Buri Ram ,much to the displeasure of their original supporters, who deserted in droves .He teamed up with sponsor I Mobile ( yes another mobile phone company :-" )amongst others ,who named the newly built stadium . Making them undoubtedly the richest club in Thailand .I am not much of a football fanatic but I would rather not see Udon Town going down the same road

I disagree TB ,,,,,,, wether its Man u , Man c SCUNNY UTD or even Leeds Utd who ever ,a buyout or takeover for Udon FC by any one would be better than their operating status at the mo ,, corupt , bent or 100 % perfume n flowers investment is certainly required and i doubt any supporter would give a fig where the money came from when they are playing TPL footy and competing week in week out ................. IMO ,,,thats IMO......... a humble purveyor of sausage in booze .

I come in december for 4 weeks to Udon and would like to see FC Udon. I know it´s not champions league...

I believe that Udon FC will be moving into the new sports centre when its completed.

I think thats right TB , the capacity is only approx 4000 tho i think , and the building work has slowed down recently. It will be a great facility when finally completed.

A few things ......

I think www.thaileaguefootball.com a good site.

With the talk of Buriram PEA, I note that the 'lesser' Buriram FC team won Division 1 Thai League and my understanding is promotion will mean they will also play in the Premier League next year.

Donki. No chance of you seeing Udon play whilst you're here, methinks. The season appears to run from March to October, with an extension for teams involved in play-offs.

Loei have had greater success than Udon in recent seasons (perhaps not that difficult!), which perhaps explains the car stickers. In the season just finished, having finished second to Roi Et in the North-East Region Division 2, they're in the play-offs again for promotion to Division 1. (Incidentally, anyone found a Thai who 'supports' other than United, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and now Man. City?)

I didn't get to see Udon much last season. I hope the new stadium will encourage more support and greater passion. For a large city, the support rather disappointing, particularly, on occasions I went, when visiting teams brought fair numbers of enthusiastic fans with organised noise. And some very pretty too!

I live in hope the playing surface at the new stadium may be better. Mind you, unlike Nongbualamphu's, at least the current ground doesn't have a large slab poking through the surface.

Much as it would be great if Udon could, one day, boast a Premier League side, I use the cliche, "it's a different ball game". I note, for example, the Premier League sides all appear to have at least half a dozen foreign players.

I fancy watching Udon FC. Always surprised me that a city the size of Udon does not have a top team.So I will go along with mash with regards somebody with big money taking over the club,and making them a big team.Udon should have a team in the prem.league,then I am sure they would get decent support.I for one,would follow them.Heres hoping!!!

Udonfox - I'm sure you've seen this goal but if not, have a look at Paul Gallagher's second goal for Leicester City in their recent 3-0 victory against Crystal Palace. Udon Thani FC's supporters will not of seen anything like this before.

It's my goal of the season....so far.

I too am suprised hoew lowly Udon FC are in the fotball system ... its all down to lack of investment .... but things may be changing .

On another related subject my son has been selected to train further with the Udon juniors/ reserves , hes going every evening and weekends with Mondays off , ive met the coach n some of the staff as well as the owner and they all agree new money.investment is needed coinciding with a new stadium move if n when it ever gets finished that is . From wot ive seen quite a professional set up AND IMO THE TOWN IS CRYING OUT FOR A SUCESSFUL FOOTY TEAM whch would get massive support for sure .

Scunny or Udon fc ....its touch n go who i would follow more vermontly .
