Motorcy Rental

Could someone please let me know of a reputable place from which to rent a mocy for maybe three or four days not too far from Centerpoint?

Thanks

Jack

Hi,
I have hired cars from Lek. Also they hire out motorbikes. I have been pleased with the car rental, but never hired a bike from them. I value my life to much, to ride a M/C. in LOS. Might be worth a try.
They advitise on this site so you can get all the details there. They will bring the car to where you are, so i think they will do the same with a bike. Costs nothing to check with them, and they do good insurance, which is vital here.

Cheers Doug.

If you are looking for a small automatic Honda or Yami just about anywhere & everywhere will rent you one.
As douglas touches on the important thing is what the insurance cover is like.
That can range from just about sufficient to allow you legally on the road to full comprehensive insurance.
If you have minimal insurance while on holiday & have an accident then you, personally, can be liable for a huge amount of money, even if it was not actually your fault!!. It is well worth paying even an extra 100 baht a day for an insurance that leaves you fully covered if the worst happens..

Lek car rentals are (IMHO) number 1 for car rentals, but I'm not sure if they still do bikes.
Well worth a phone call to verify. Otherwise, and certainly one of the closest to Centerpoint would be (as Martynsnowman suggested) 99+1 Bar. They are on the corner of Soi Sampan and Prajak road (opposite Croc's Club).

@ Bob Helm... I've a feeling that you can't get fully comp. (Class 1) insurance for scooters, but even Class 2 would be better than CTPL which most of them seem to have.

It is possible to get a Class 1 on down to a 150 Stevo.
Although I admit I have no idea if anyone renting in Udon is offering that at the moment.
The thing to be wary of with 2nd. class (if that is the best you can get) is that it usually does not cover personal medical costs resulting from an accident, so you need to ensure that any travel insurance that you have is not invalidated by bike riding.
You also, obviously, have to personally cover the actual damage to the bike if it is your fault...

I hear what you're saying Bob (a friend of mine has Class 1 on a CBR150), but as most automatic scooters are around 115cc I wasn't sure if it's available... would be good if it is ;)

I've heard a number of derogatory remarks regarding business with said lady.
I suggest you ask around and satisfy yourself before renting from her.

Car rental

I have hired form KEK previously with no problems, but for my next visit they do not have the car I want, so I am looking around. I was attracted to LEK because of comments here, especially 1st Class Insurance.
Company I am now looking at - Diamond Car rental who work through Hertz, Avis etc provide Self Drive Insurance. When I queried what this covered I was told the following:
"Our insurance is FULL self drive insurance, 1st class insurance is for private cars. Please note that we only source cars from companies such as HERTZ, BUDGET, SIXT, EUROPCAR and NATIONAL and in Thailand the two largest Thai Owned PLC. car rental companies"
"THE biggest problem with 1st class car insurance with any driver or with named drivers in Thailand is that it EXPRESSLY FORBIDS USE FOR SELF DRIVE RENTAL OR HIRE, as a matter of interest it also excludes use for private hire, chauffeur drive......So 1st class insurance in whichever form does NOT cover anyone for self drive rental where they have paid to use the car as a rental"

Anyone have any comments to confirm this...and that Self drive insurnace is adequate?
thanks

We need to alter the wording in our adverts, all our vehicles are fully insured for rental purposes, the yearly premium for this is substantially more expensive than insurance for private cars.... some company's might avoid paying this as our insurance premium for all our vehicles is rather hefty reaching nearly 1 million baht per year,

below is one of our insurance contracts, this one is for a new Vigo, premium 31,442.76 baht

If referring to our company and you have an accident in one of our vehicles where it has to be off the road being repaired for 4 weeks or any length of time, the insurance company pays for the repairs and we have to stand the cost of the vehicle not being able to be rented out for the duration of its repair......

I appreciate the comments from LK, and I woulkd re-iterate I found them good to deal with when I hired from them.

What I am trying to establish is whether FULL self drive insurance is good insurance.

thanks
