Anywhere. Just buy International Calling Card at 7-11. There are various other ways but this is the simplest.

Several choices here. Uniontelecard offers auto recharge, pinless dailing ect....good for calling to Thailand but when we are there we just use the calling card from 7-11 as Aisaphile says.

CAT Telecom sell calling cards from their office.

Or dial 009 before the number you want to call.

If you sign up for a skype account, international calls are really cheap.

You can then find a free WiFi spot or use the data connection on your phone.

Its perfect for me as i go to alot of different countries to work. For $4 a month i get unlimited calls to thailand (mobile or landline) I think for $12 dollars a month there is a unlimited worldwide package. Although it isn't for every country eg can only be used for UK landlines not mobiles.

Still, its not bad

Back in days of old (late 1990's), the international phone office had booths for making international calls......almost like Lily Tomlin and 'one ringy dingy' days.

With a CAT phonenet card, you can call the US for 1 baht per minute, 24/7, from either a mobile phone or a regular phone....to a mobile phone or a regular phone. And, since you call a toll-free number when making a call (1544), you don't incur mobile phone charges on top of your international call. It's worked well for us for the past 8 years or so.

True has an Inter Sim for international calls - the charge is 1฿ per minute to US Canada. It doesn't list the rate for the UK or Oz. If you have a two sim phone and make international calls this may be an option.

Yahoo Messenger is 4 cents a minute from computer in Thailand to phone in US. Skype is higher. True is higher still.

Many ways to skin the cat. Take your pick. Up2U.

One more way to call the USA. I use a company called Magicjack. They provide a local phone number in the states. My family lives in the Sacramento area, so I got a number from that area code. They have area codes from most places in the States. I pay them $20 a year for the phone number. The calls are free. I can make and receive calls from all over the world as long as I have a wifi connection. Nice to know my family can call me anytime for free. I use the app for my iPhone. It's also nice when you call because it shows your local number in the states on caller ID. Also provides voice mail. Just another option.

In the interests of accuracy, Skype to the US on a PAYG plan is 2.3cents/minute (other than Alaska), plus connection fee (4.9cents).

I was mistaken regarding the US phone rate on Yahoo Messenger. It has changed to 1.9 cents per minute to phones in the US. I'm getting a better deal than I thought. :D

Hi,
I just use my mobile, with a 1 2 Call card fitted. From my country, to LOS it costs, by landline, 1.10 GBP a minute, help. So if the daughter wants to contact me, she lets the phone ring six times, and then rings off. I then phone her from my mobile, Don't know the exact cost but around 4B. a min. Last time, when i lost my phone, 2 years ago, in Pattaya, i used one of those touts charging 8B a min. to U.K. They won't be doing it at a loss.
Never had any other sim card fitted, and the last time i phoned home was Christmas. Never thought about doing it any other way, as i only make three or four calls home a year.

I know skype calls are free......but phonenet cards from the CAT office are now 10% off. So a 60 minute phone call to the US now only costs 54 Baht. And you can call from your mobile or from a regular phone for the same price.
A few days ago, we called a friend's home phone in Italy......it cost less than 2 Baht per minute using the phonenet card.

Yes, indeed. I also have the magicJack Plus. I too got a Marin/San Francisco area code number that I gave to all my family, friends, businesses and government agencies in the US. The calls to/from USA are clear and free. I say the voice quality is good and better than using Skype. The only thing to watch out is the time differences and it could disturb your sleep.

I'm using the old model of Panasonic cordless phones (set of 3 brought from US) with my magicJack Plus at home here in Udon Thani. I also plan to get the Android App for use with my mobile phone. That way I can make calls and receive calls to/from US wherever I am and wi-fi is available. And the Android App does not take any minutes from your mobile phone service package. How cool will that be! Cheers.

Now that they have "3g" in Udon you no longer need WIFI. It works just fine over the mobile internet with the iPhone app. Nice to know you can make and receive calls anytime.

I note you may well be from the UK with the UnionJack ???

If so calls to there using TOT as an alternative to online facilities, although more costly can be accessed using 007 + country code + city area or 008 and ditto for the rest.

I use this regulary for the UK and have alwys found it o.k for off line convenience.
