Greyhound Racing in Thailand?

Post by 430xc » June 19, 2012, 1:51 pm

I am wondering if there is greyhound dog racing in Thailand. If so, where and when. Watching them race is a real treat. I did not get much when I google greyhound racing in Thailand.

Part of my interest is because I have had 3 retired racing greyhounds. They are wonderful pets. In the USA, very few if any retired greyhounds are put down. They are adopted into good homes.

In all my time here I have never heard any mention of Greyhound racing. In fact the only Dog racing seems to be in the Sakon Nakon area and near to Chiang Mai, and in both it is Man v dog racing ...... if the dog doesn't win he ends up curried for dinner

Instead of a Hare, I would have a "Farang" (Pejorative) on a motorcyle coming out of a shed.

No greyhound racing, only horse racing on Saturdays in Udon and Sunday's in Khon Kean. Udon races start at 1230 with one race every 30 minutes (10 races total with anywhere from 6-9 horse running).

About 10 minutes outta town on the Sakon Nakon road.

Thanks but I doubt that retired racing horses would make all that good house pets.

gday 430x
yeah you are right greyhounds make wonderful pets docile just like hanging around
sleeping and want to please you . in australia most states have in place adopt a greyhound programme
which inables people to adopt a dog after they have finnished up racing rather than be being put down
it is very succesful as you see quite a few being taken for a walk around the streets.
they have to have their muzzle on for one year after raciing when been taken out in the suburds or parks.
cheers paul.
