Suicide, Central Shopping Center

Post by parrot » July 31, 2012, 8:27 pm

A 59 year old American man suffered fatal injuries after jumping off the 5th floor of the Central Shopping Center parking area on the evening of 30 July. The man was rushed to the hospital where he died a short time later. The man, a resident of Ban Nong Na Kahm (about 12km outside of Udon off of Hwy 22 to NongHan), had been living in Thailand for the past two years with his Thai wife. In a handwritten note, the deceased said that he was unable to pay for his family.

It's sad to think the pressures of taking car of your family or extended family can lead to taking your own life.

Sad, he could of hanged in there for another 3-4 years and started collecting his social security check. Even with a minimum wage job, he'd have enough to survive in Issan comfortably.

RIP

From what I gather from the Police ... He left a suicide note stating he was on a long overstay and did not have the money to get back to the USA. He also requested that a catholic priest should take care of his funeral. His body is now at the "Bangkok Hospital" (formerly Panyawait Hospital?) awaiting re-patronisation.

That is true.

Especially children are the real victims of a suicide.

Sad story, so young ( my age ) I guess he lost sight of the fact that life is about struggle and challenge. To my way of thinking, no disrespect, is that suicide is a selfish act.

Suicide as I was told many years ago, is a cry for help, most hope it does not suceed, but then in truth one really cannot even to begin to understand a suicide as you do not really know the thought processes of the person involved, what may appear to be a simple statement about lack of cash may have deeper meanings such as no where to go, no family to turn to ( outside the Thailand ) no real friends with whom to discuss the problems.

Never having been in that situation i could not even begin to understand, but we all know that after any suicide it is the friends and family who have to come to terms with the sudden and useless death and deal with the financial and mental aftermath .

Any death through suicide is a waste of a life and really no matter how bad things are permanency in death is a wake-up call to us all, we should all make sure that we are not alone, as has been stated elsewhere, many come here to get away and seek solace in our personal independence and freedom but sometimes, as possibly in this case it is a double edged sword, insularity can be depressing when things are hard and tip ones mind over the edge which then leads to this situation.

Just a few thoughts about the situation does not detract from the sadness, and yet again RIP to the victim.
