Movies in English??

Post by FrazeeDK » August 18, 2012, 9:38 am

A number of years ago it wasn't unusual to see English soundtrack movies at the Cineplex here in Udon. For the last few years I rarely see any English soundtrack movies advertised either on the boards in the mall or at http://www.movieseer.com/th/showtimes.aspx. Has anyone ever queried the Cineplex manager as to why they don't have more English soundtrack movies.. I sure would like to see Expendables II but it says Thai soundtrack for today.. Yesterday said Thai soundtrack, Enlgish subtitles but that just isn't the same... There certainly is enough of an expat population here to support several showings a week...

So...I do not understand much Thai, but every Thai movie I have watched was still interesting. The plot lines are pretty simple (often they involve a lot of action, not so much dialog). Go to A Thai move; you might miss some subtiltiesl, but you will still enjoy the movie.

Me and my wife wanted to see Sherlock Holmes in Udon Thani last winter. The board said English soundtrack and we asked the staff to be sure, and they said English soundtrack, but when the film started it was dubbed in thai. We left after a minute and got our money back after they had checked the sound themselves.

Hopefully there will be more English soundtrack in Udon Thani soon. Now we live in BKK, but will move to Udon before Xmas. In BKK we`re watching at least 3-4 movies a month, all with English soundtrack.

Isn`t there coming a new Cineplex next to UD Town soon? Maybe they want farang customers?
