Reception

The film has received mixed to negative reviews from critics. As of September 12, 2012, it has a 30% rating at the aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, based on 27 reviews.[18] Its score at the aggregator website Metacritic, based on 11 reviews, is 40 out of 100, indicating "mixed or average reviews".[19]

In the New York Times, Andy Webster labeled the film "strident" and said "D’Souza stumbles when interviewing George Obama, the president’s half-brother, an activist who voluntarily lives amid squalor in Nairobi, Kenya. 'Obama has not done anything to help you', Mr. D'Souza goads George Obama. 'He's taking care of me; I'm part of the world,' George Obama replies."[20] Beth Fouhy of the Associated Press questioned some of the film's points and said its central thesis that Obama's presidency is an expression of his father's political beliefs, "is almost entirely subjective and a logical stretch at best".[21]

Joe Leydon of Variety stated, "The deft editing and overall technical polish -- as well as a generous travel budget -- go a long way toward making the pic an attention-grabber."[22]

Ben Mankiewicz stated, "I think [the film] is another reminder of how many people in this country find Obama so shockingly unlikesome that they are seemingly ready to believe the most nonsensical theories about him."[14] In the Washington Post, Michael O’Sullivan described the movie as a "slick infomercial...destined to irritate the president’s supporters while mobilizing his detractors, even as it is doomed to win precious few converts", while also criticizing D'Souza for "fear-mongering of the worst kind".[23] Bill Goodykoontz of The Arizona Republic said it was "preaching to the choir" in a style similar to Michael Moore's films, but without the humor, without the straw-man arguments and without presenting views from the other side, and is unlikely to change anyone's mind.[5] Joe Leydon of Variety said "the pic comes off as a cavalcade of conspiracy theories, psycho-politico conjectures and incendiary labeling" making it "highly unlikely that anyone predisposed to championing Obama would be won over", but also saying, "there's no gainsaying the value of 2016 as a sort of Cliffs Notes precis of the conservative case against the re-election of our current U.S. president."[4]

John Fund of National Review wrote that "D’Souza obviously wants his film to be taken seriously, and it deserves to be." He praised the production and feels that the film will appeal to conservatives as well as independents who are unsure of Obama.[2] Christian Toto from the website breitbart.com, also praised the production quality of the film, stating that "It's rare to see unabashedly right of center films and when they arrive they typically reveal their modest budgets in every scene. 2016 is different." He described the film as "clearly a conservative's effort to explain the president's actions while cautioning against a future in which Obama is unchecked by political reckoning."[3]

I don't think anyone needed a litany from liberal news outlets to know that the ones who shield Obama would give the film a bad review.

I heard on the news (probably Fox )

that the movie has done better than Michael Moores flicks. Sounds hard to beleive beacause you could not stop hearing about him and his movies when they were out.

And no, GM hasn't repaid the loans. GM gave us stock that was valued at $50 a share, and it's barely over $25 a share. That's a 50% loss for taxpayers at this point. Fiat bought Chrysler and got some Obama Tax Incentives. So, no Obama didn't save the auto industry. GM still owes and Chrysler is now Fiat.

Now, what the hell did Obama fix so far that will make the mess a whole lot less? Specifics, please.

Hate to say it, dugtymchuk, but these are some of the mild things. We haven't even touched on Fast & Furious Scandal and the Libya Lie Scandal. And there's so much more that impacts American families on a daily basis.

Only listed a few of the "fixes" that jumped out at me. Maybe easier to list the Big "O's" accomplishments... ummm, whoops, there aren't any.. deficit reduction, nope. Immigration reform, nada. Jobs, whoops, take care of that next term. etc, etc, etc, He just needs more time. As his slogan says, Forward..... off the cliff, into oblivion....
