Don't want to shock you Bonanza but we stated the actual price paid for the property when we handled the transfer in 1997. It sort of seemed to be the right thing to do.

No never. Not for my step-son who started at Bosco, eventually transferred to Udon Pitt, Vocational school and now attending university. Also, not for my son & daughter that are presently attending Bosco.Bonanza wrote:A couple of questions for the 'Anti-Corruption' squad,
" When you bought your house/farm/land and went to register the transfer did you declare the actual sum paid for it and pay the appropriate transfer tax - or was a lesser purchase price quoted to reduce the tax payable?"
"For those with children at University - did you make any donation to ensure that they attended the college they specifically wanted?"
Just fishing.

It's not all doom and gloom!
Just returned from my annual Retirement Visa Extension, Boxing Day and as I expected the office was quite. On entry I was approached by a young male trainee asking me for my passport and asked me what I needed - I told him and he replied my old extension still had 2 weeks on it and I should come back then, didn't attempt to explain the errors of his way politely asked for my passport, picked up a number and sat down.
Only one female attendant at the service desks looking after (who looked like) a Thai agent as there was a mountain of paper in front of them and 2 interns sitting up the far end. One immediately asked me what I was after, she went out the back and a short time later a 50ish man with glasses came out and started to process my paperwork. 20 minutes in all both Extension and Re-entry Permit done and dusted and he OFFERED me my 100 Baht change -- Well with 2 internes running around for him, 6 additional photo copies and his very pleasant attitude I suggested he put it in the tip bin.
I'm sure if TW and he weren't having such a jovial conversation (you can bet it was at my expense) we would have been out earlier, on our leaving he stood up, shook my hand wishing us a happy new year.
As it turned out they weren't only talking about me, he is the 2nd in Command and said they were going through a big personnel change - hence the shortage of regular staff - so maybe JUST MAYBE - threads like this is a wake up call for them! Anyway all went much better than I was expecting.
On another note:-
On our way home we decided to put the 'Carry Boy' tax problem to bed so stopped at the Nong Han transport office. We were told we had to go back to a weigh bridge near Udon and have DMax weighed then come back to have it inspected, tax assessed and he sounded like we could expect other hassles --- Farang -- tea money -- I could see it all now. Well we lasted 10 years being stopped 3 times with only one 200 baht fine so I'm saving up my change for the next. -- NOT going through this effin bullshlt.
What makes it worse this tax only applies to private pickups (with CarryBoy) not used for income purposes. eg street vendors AND only 50 baht / year. As far as I'm concerned they can have the 50 baht BUT why do they make it so hard? RANT OVER

A friend of mine went to the same place recently, to sort out his CarryBoy problem. He went through a long rigmarole and when he went to the weighbridge, he pointed out that the Vigo was full of furniture that he had just bought,
'Mai phen rai ' said the attendant and waved him onto scales !!!!
