When that happens to me SFG, I make them take it off of the ticket. It is a hassle for them to do so and they usually need to call a supervisor to credit it out. I've never won the argument either, but I have also never paid the inflated price, and they pay in frustration on their end.

You ARE a farang. period. Better don't forget it especially when you buy something. The Thai selling you something surely won't overlook the small detail of you being a farang ; a sucker who don't know the real price and can be overcharged. Ha !

Guess I'm no longer considered a Farang then? Because it never happens to me here in Udon anyway. Maybe being able to converse in the language helps . :-"

I personally wouldnt buy anything or have any work one without knowing the "real" n fair price ,, agree with TB AGAIN ,, woohhh ......

If an expat residing here does speak the lingo it does IMHO help greatly when going around ones business ,, inc buying items etc ,,, the Thai feels easier and show a modicum of respect for a foreigner who has made the effort to learn the language .... a total newbie not being able to converse is leaving them selves at the mercy of the seller and or their partner in turn getting ripped off whether its a prize pig , a land plot or a bunch of grapes is irrelevent ...

i guess you never did take a tuk tuk here, just to name something. the first instinctive reaction of the tuk tuk driver will always be to ask for an overpriced fare. The same at any small market, don't pay attention and prices might go up. And yes u r right, being able to speak Thai helps, but the first reaction of too many Thais dealing with a farang is to overprice them, and let the farang hussle for a lower price. Isn't that why we farangs before doing serious busines, have to inform ourselves very well about the real value ??

Fully agree with this, even in Big markets and UD-town they TRY to overcharge the Farang or Mia farang or ,if in their eyes, a Thai seems to be a rich guy or woman.

Lee posted also in the past that even a cashier of a respectable shop try to hassle with his wife about the CheckBin.
