coulda sworn that the C-130 doing multiple approaches at the airport late this afternoon was a USAF MC-130.. Had that very square nose of an MC-130 (Special Ops bird)....

Yes, they're back in town.....matter of fact, one flew a low level flight over our house just a few minutes ago. Lucky for me, it's the cool season and I wasn't taking an outdoor shower.

I think they're doing joint excercises with Singapore's Air Force.

I reckon their sending a very subtle message to all countries that border Thailand that the USA are still around and will be showing off some of their new toys. Especially to those Govt's doing deals with China, for power plants and dams and what ever other resources the chinese want.
Would be interesting to see what airspace they have permission to fly over, taking their secret photos from maybe some unmanned model aircraft.
But that would be classed as a conspiracy theory. :-"

Played golf this am at Wing 23. There were 4 C130's parked on the flight line. Didn't see any of the usual Singapore fighter jets on the base or in flight. Maybe arriving a bit later.

The US military has been coming here for annual exercises for most every year for the past 17. I think they withheld after the coup in 2006.......but started right up again after the dust settled.

Actually as far back as 1991, I was here for CG91. Half way through all operations were put on hold due to the 91 coup. No threat in Udon and we had nearly 2 weeks of liberty.

They're probably here in advance of Cobra Gold (multinational exercise) which runs from 11-21 February. Followed by Cope Tiger (Multilateral exercise, RTAF, RSAF & USAF) and runs 11-21 March.

The girls are tired of looking at grumpy OLD Charlies. New meat and the new meat is young and in prime physical shape. Why wouldn't they be excited? I'm sure all the sisters, aunties and neighbors out in the villages have been called to fresh'n up and head to the big city. The rice has been harvested and there is ฿ to be made! Looks like it's time for me to head south. For sun and surf and be back after the 21st of feb. I come here to get away from the cold and my fellow Americans. Hanging out with active USAF is not my idea of a good time.

I think Udon has always gotten a small piece of CG no matter where the big parts are held in Thailand.. Usually Special Operations related if my memory serves me right..
