His career turned to journalism while in Philadelphia, and suddenly, Thomas Paine became very important. In 1776, he published Common Sense, a strong defense of American Independence from England. He joined the Continental Army and wasn't a success as a soldier, but he produced The Crisis (1776-83), which helped inspire the Army. This pamphlet was so popular that as a percentage of the population, it was read by or read to more people than today watch the Super Bowl

Paul, are you back in town and taking over the reigns of this again? Or shall it be left to the general conscencus of those more recently active participants?
At the moment the main suggestion appears to be the German restaurant on Adunyadet road, map ref: N11.
I must admit I've never seen it, let alone been there, so I'm easy either way!!

I was back in town up to last week - but I am out of town again and will not be around for yet another monthly meeting
Sounds like its going to be Rauche Kate then ?
from the centre of town going towards the top end of Adunyadet Road (and Nong Sim Park) the restaurant is on the left hand side of the road with big blue gates /railings outside
