Well - new airports have to be paid for somehow !!!!

Expect domestic fares to rise then - as this departure tax is usually incorporated into the ticket price - unlike international where it is charged seperately before entering passport control.

I've just seen confirmation of this point:

Increases effective from February 1, 2007:-

International will increase from 500-700 baht.

Domestic from 50-100 baht.

I don't remembering asking for this new airport and the increased fees...

When is the Singapor to Udon route going to open?

The referenced article says:
"AOT said it was postponing the new fee to attract airlines to Suvarnabhumi. The new landing fee is a 15-per-cent increase on that charged at Don Muang airport."

The increase is 40%.

Feb 7th 07. My travel agent rang me a few days ago to inform me that departure tax as of Feb 1st 07 is included in the price of the ticket. :D :D

This is a flight from Sydney to BKK return flying Thai Airways...
Have a great day and please do..... eat and drink heaps :drunk: :guitar:

Do you mean departure tax from Sydney or Bkk too.
It would take a brave man to try to get past the girls on the departures gate without the little white ticket to prove you have paid your departure tax.

I wouldn't believe your travel agent until you have safely passed those girls and didn't have to pay ! LOL

I paid for my ticket two weeks ago, I always buy my ticket from a company called Thai Fares Ltd. Always get a good price, they told me that the 700baht is indeed included in the price, and the white ticket machines have been made redundant, at the unfinished airport.

I went through and had to pay my 500 baht at a kiosk manned by 2 young ladies on December 29. Not a problem there because it was pretty much what I was expecting.
However..As I was waiting in the passport queue I could not help but notice some people completely ignoring the queue and walking past the desks manned by the immigration people and nobody batted an eyelid.
OK All the people I saw went to the overstay desk to pay their fine but...and this is a big but...it would have been a piece of cake for anyone to continue walking on through to departures because nobody even looked at them. No guards there to stop them...nothing!
I wonder if this is one area of the security that will be stepped up after the New Year bombings?

Also..related to this thread...I have a friend here who bought and paid for his tickets through a travel agent last month.
He now has the ticket in his sticky little mitt though he is not due to travel until march.

Does anyone know if there is a process in place to add the airport tax as a surcharge to the ticket that he will be informed of prior to travel?

Does he have to buy a tax ticket at the airport as normal?

And....one thing I have just thought of.....If someone buys a ticket where the airport tax is included..how will anyone know??

I can see a situation with some unscrupulous airlines charging for the tax but not actually showing it has been paid.
So the person has no choice but to pay it again at the kiosk.

Like, as in the case of my friend with his already bought ticket...where is the indication on the ticket to say that the tax has already been paid?

Before I go I would like to wish everyone...A very happy and prosperous New Year.

And thank you for taking the trouble to read this.

Thai Airways now issue E-Tickets, on mine there is a section that says BKK airport tax paid.

Fact. Try searching the forum - there is plenty of information about this. Starts in the next few days.
