One-Two-Go 747 at Udon Thani Airport
Re: One-Two-Go 747 at Udon Thani Airport
All of the B747s seen mostly in a white colour scheme and engineless, without registration and markings are ALL owned by Orient Thai (One to Go is a subsidary airline), The aircraft are all very old and the airframes are almost out of hours.
Most large airlines (and some small ones) lease engines for their aircraft, Orient Thai are no exception.
No B747 has ever been smuggled into Thailand ! How dumb is that, all of these aircraft have been legally registered in Thailand at some stage, it is quite common for airlines to blank out markings to stop them being linked to them when aircraft are parted out.....................................NO MYSTERY !!
Thai Police take note !! Idiots

Never be surprised what can happen in Thailand.
From my memory (and it is not 100% ), a few years ago a civilian cargo plane was forced to make an emergency landing at Don Muang - in accordance with international conventions. (This was not the Russian aircraft carrying weapons from 2 or 3 years ago).
Thai Customs decided (in their "wisdom") to seize the plane, due to the fact it did not declare itself as an import. They demanded huge (distributable amongst the main players) penalties (based on the value of a modern jet plane) - solvable only by the payment of commensurate tea money . It caused huge controversy, eventually overcome by some very heavy diplomatic pressure.

Thailand should re-brand itself Not the Land of Smiles, BUT The Land of the INSANE.
Perhaps its me, but this time I have come up against more dipsticks than ever before, this coupled with the low exchange rate has now made living here unacceptable. Yes leaving TM !!! LOL

A new measurement of Thailand's "livability"... The Dipstick Index!
Are you leaving yours when you go?

Concerned Citizen: There's a funny plane hanging about the Pits.parrot wrote:I was browsing Thai Rath's website for news tonight and came across this photo: Look familiar? I thought the article was about Udon mystery jet.....but no.....it's about a mystery 747 in Phitsunalok!
The gist of the article: Police decided to investigate the 747 after it was found that signs/markings were painted over (does this sound familiar?) and various engine parts were removed (does this sound familiar?). According to police, the aircraft was apparently smuggled into the country illegally (I'll assume it wasn't hidden inside a condom) and parts are being sold to neighboring countries......all to avoid taxes (this sounds like a story I heard about a monster Honda motorcycle that was shipped over as 'parts).
And, of course, tit, the police are trying to determine who 'owns' the airplane.
Wonder if there's any relationship to Udon???
Plod Noomnim : Where?
CC: At the airport.
Plod Somchai: Sounds about right to me.
CC: No, no. It's all white, piss poor paint job too.
Plod: Poor taste and nonsense workmanship isn't a crime... is it Somchai?
Plod Somchai: Not unless we have a dog in the fight Noomnim.
CC: But the engines are missing!
Plod Noomnim & Somchai [in unison]; Arai wah! Why haven't we been told this before???!!!
CC: It's been there for about 5 years.
Plod Noomnim: Phew! Had us worried there... Only five years eh? Still, sounds fishy. Better get this written up as a smuggling job eh Somchai? The Super will be well chuffed with us then.
Re: One-Two-Go 747 at Udon Thani Airport
I, like most of us I think, have no idea what's what with the mystery plane that's been parked in Udon. The only thing I know is that it's strange for someone to paint over the plane, pay parking rental fees for what seems like 2 or so years, and remove the engines. Maybe this is normal.........maybe it's not. The fact that the police haven't made an issue of it for all this time doesn't mean anything.....anymore than the police don't bother busting an internet shop for illegal software until they've decided to do so.
Good bad or otherwise, it's what's in the news in Thailand......like the mystery deaths in Chiangmai....where all the pieces don't seem to add up.

Still there and now has sign writing on it around the cockpit saying its for training purposes.

It seems to me that I recall this plane along with several others around the country being a part of an airline bankruptcy case. I would expect it to be around for quite some time since the Thai Courts are not known for their speed.

Sometime in the past two weeks it was moved to a new spot directly in front of the control tower.

Or is removing the engines the Thai aviation authorities equivalent to police wheel clamping illegally parked cars?

It is bought and paid for. It is a training facility. They tested a tractor a few weeks ago and got the flat spots out off the tires.

And here I thought Mash bought it to fly his chilled Aussie steaks straight into Udon, cutting out the middle man and reducing the price even more.
