Foreigner's can't apply for Big C Rewards Card?

Post by NongKhaiLee » March 21, 2013, 12:11 pm

My wife and I do a bit of shopping at the Big C stores in Udon when we come down from NongKhai, so we thought we would apply for a Big C card....not happening! The young woman at the customer service counter told us that they only issue rewards cards to people who have Thai I.D. Cards! (Buht Pasasohn Thai) [-X
We are here on Non O Multi Business.visas and have a Tabien Ban and also have our vehicles registered in our names... but can't have a Big C Shopping card! Amazing!
What next? Is Tesco going to revoke our cards....I don't know if I could live with that :D

Foreigner's can't apply for Big C Rewards Card?

I just called the B-C call Centre on 1756, and was informed by the operator that foreigners can and are most welcome to apply for the Big-C rewards card. You only need to provide your passport number and other details such as address, phone number, etc. The person I spoke with at the call centre offered that the Customer Service Representative may have been new. Hope that Helps.

Thanks,
We'll try again next time we're down that way, part of me figured that the service rep was wrong...but what could we do but smile and say, "Mai Pen Rai" !

As for future situations such as this...would it have helped if we had called the call center right then and had them talk with the service rep? Or would that have caused problems with her losing face?

Take your Yellow Book with you next time. They get your Thai ID number from that and everyone are happy. From Thai ID card they will copy exact same kind of ID number to application. If she/he really need Thai ID number, why not to give it? \:D/

I have few times faced a situation, where Thai tax ID number is needed. That really shows that you live and work here. Yellow book gives an Thai ID number, but you still can live somewhere else, work somewhere else etc.

I have a BIG C rewards cards since the day they took over CARREFOUR (as I was a CARREFOUIR member before, even though that card was issued in BKK.
I did not need any documentation except my passport.

BIG C REWARDS is actually the best rewards-system I know of in Thailand (even TESCO are no somehow copying it), as you will get a discount-coupon each time the accumulated amount of your purchases exceeds 2000 Baht. Bought some furniture there last year at a BIG C PLUS store in BKK and was awarded with cash coupons of 80, then 150, then 300 Baht. Not bad.....

I got a CARREFOUIR card from when they were in Udon, can't remember how, just that when they 1st opened couldn't leave til I signed up. Never carry passport, so that wasn't required, maybe drivers license.

When Big C took over they just accepted the CARREFOUIR card, but when I tried to use it at the other store, she smiled and said No. Maybe I should have asked her to scan it.
