We'll try again next time we're down that way, part of me figured that the service rep was wrong...but what could we do but smile and say, "Mai Pen Rai" !
As for future situations such as this...would it have helped if we had called the call center right then and had them talk with the service rep? Or would that have caused problems with her losing face?
Take your Yellow Book with you next time. They get your Thai ID number from that and everyone are happy. From Thai ID card they will copy exact same kind of ID number to application. If she/he really need Thai ID number, why not to give it?
I have few times faced a situation, where Thai tax ID number is needed. That really shows that you live and work here. Yellow book gives an Thai ID number, but you still can live somewhere else, work somewhere else etc.
