Udon Car Rental Rant

Post by danchatka » March 28, 2013, 3:57 pm

For the 2nd year in a row, when I called Lek Car Rental and UD Car Rent, ready to rent a car, neither answered repeated phone calls. UD Car Rent even advertises "Available 24 hours per day" on their website. What a joke.

Once again I'm left only with Pet Car Rental, which, based on last year's experience, has mostly older, smelly cars for rent.

In case I need to rent a car again next year, does anyone know other car rental shops they like to do business with (and who answer their phone)?

Thanks!

UD Car Rent called back about 30 minutes after my last missed call to them.

I said, I'll come to your office to meet you and see the cars. The gentleman I spoke with said, "...there's no one at our office now...".

Also, neither UD Car Rent or Lek Car Rental had a way for me to leave a phone message.

On the bright-side, he was very polite and agreed to deliver a rental car to my apartment within 30 minutes.

Thai business practices can be frustrating at times, especially to up-tight farangs like myself :?

When UD Car Rent brought a rental car to my apartment, their employee Noy said they didn't accept credit cards! Why didn't he tell me this before he brought the car?

He offered to take Thai or foreign cash. But if I paid in US dollars he would only convert them at a rate much lower rate than a credit card company.

Why should I pay a penalty for UD Car Rent's inability to accept credit cards?

UD Car Rent is off my list of rental car providers.

with Lek I usually email them at the start of the business day. they'll usually reply back and we go over whatever options are available.

compared to other parts of Thailand Udon Thani is definitely lacking, either because demand is low, or profits are too low.

the taxi situation is a joke, with most drivers living in their own reality and zero consistency at the company or driver level. this is an area where you are better off owning a cheap secondhand car. and even those are hard to come by.

Apologies our phone line is down  after seeing your comment we checked it and when you ring us it seems like the line is live but there is no ring tone at our end  but we will get an engineer to it tomorrow, Lek can be reached on her mobile though but unfortunately we are full if you are requiring a vehicle immediately :(

Best regards

To balance this up - ive used LEK CAR RENTAL for 5 years and have always had a fantastic service.

Emails are replied to within 12 hours (we are in UK) and phone calls immediately. No problem in recommending them.
