Around the fullmoon in October you won't be able to get a room if you haven't made a reservation because of the Naga Fireballs.

when exactly is the "fullmoon" this year ? i am schedule to arrive on the 11th of Oct.

Thanks
This hotel over looks the Mekhong River, room rates are 1,100 per night. You can book online here:

Nong Khai is roughly 56km's from Udon Thani, more information can be found here

Nong Khai Thailand
Stayed at the Mekong Royal two months ago, fine for 1,100 baht, bit of a hike into Nong Khai if you aint got wheels, but the rooms are large and well appointed.
The one further in, the Riverside I think, is utterly ghastly. Despite the moderate lobby area the rooms are well past their revamp date, and the room service is of the beligerent trans-gender type, cheked-in then out again half hour later, money back no problem, but bunged the reception staff for their red faces.

i love a litle place called the mut mee gues house. i am presuming it is still there. i couldn't imagine the room rates and any more than a couple of hundred baht but I haven't stayed there for a long time. it also has a small restaurant set in a garden and some lovely views of the river and laos

Michael,

Fireballs have been and gone. Nong Khai is back to normal.

i just stayed at huan li and would so again if im in the area.

only at 400baht / night can't beat it. its very clean, good ac, lots of good channels on tv, good hot shower and water pressure, great central location, etc....only "con" was, if you are a lite sleeper might wake up from time to time, but the noise is from the hotel it self and voices in the hall, not from the streets.

thx to all members for some great info making things easier for a noob, now onto UT :D

If you can't stay at the Nong Khai Grand, I suggest the Charoensri Grand in Udon. Its worth the drive for the cleanliness and comfort.
