Fishing

Post by BigRick808 » March 30, 2013, 11:02 pm

Just wondering about the fishing possibilities within an hour from Udon Thani city. Any big lakes that have boats to take you out to fish? How about ponds or small lake fishing? A place to rent small motor or paddle boats. What types of fish are being caught and what's the average size...what do you catch them on? :) :) How do they taste? :) Any pics? Hope to hear from someone soon.

Some local fishing spots info here.

I believe Sabai Sabiai and Orchid Hut are currently closed.

Would be great to have an update on Udon's current fishing options, and recommendations, from you fishers of men.

PS: Thanks Shado, just the kind of info I was wondering about -- I thought some places had closed.

It's interesting we had Thai come out and fish for Talapia about a half kilo size. Not some thing I intended they just showed up. We don't fish with nets and made a farm for night crawler worms. They must taste pretty good Thai's with fish farms buy from us.

We have one pond for catfish. Nothing is big enough right now, since we are starting over doe our second season.

Like a said nothing intended, so just small ponds.

Just got back from Dona's place at ''Nam som'', didn’t catch any of the real big fish in the pictures but I was there when they emptied the lake and can verify they are there. This weekend I caught 2 Pla Saway about 4.5 each and many Tilapia... Very warm so handy having the AC Bungalows.

As Cherm Chim has said the resort will be in Udonmap late April.

Made a mistake, it's not Dona’s place, it's Donal’s he tells me this is the Irish spelling.

Thanks, Guys. Those are some nice pics, Jimmy! What's the name of those fish? They give much of a fight?

It;s funny with Talapia bigger they are the less them seem to fight. You get on at a half Kilo and he is on the run instantly.

The fish in the bucket are Plaa Sawai (striped catfish). The bigger fish being held up is either the same or a Plaa Buk (mekong catfish).
