Same-sex marriages

Post by pienmash » June 14, 2013, 8:51 am

With the some what strange laws and cultural issues here in Thailand i was wondering if same-sex marriages are allowed here ,, numerous countries around the world are in the law courts ref this issue ,,,so what is the Thai stance on it ,, being as there are copious amounts of cross genders here ladyboys (love em) Toms (not sure) Lesbos (love then more) any info ??

Btw im not thinking of throwing myself into this or wedding a gay bloke ,,, it came about in conversation whilst out for a few beers last night ,,,, was in the Sports Bar on soi Sampanit ,, great crack great music shoot pool a no hassle drinkers heaven with a bit of top totty thrown in as well ..... a fellow customer commented ref this subject and got me thinking .

mashes take is simple .... i do not have any issues with any kind of marriage if both parties are in love ...HOWEVER IDO THINK ITS both unnatural and just not on to allow some of these couples to adopt children ,,, the most famous case id Elton John and his "husdand " .... they have adopted a child ,, irrestective of where the sperm came from and who carried the child ,,, it is wrong IMO as this child will grow up very wealthy but in an unnatural environment ,, thinking this is the norm and i would hazzrd a guess turn out to be a raving **** like Sir Elton .

As ever only my op ......

No idea of the law but it's quite common , that's for sure .Your post got me thinking though as to how we refer to them .You called it strange and not normal, well I agree with that, but if you progress that reasoning further, strange , not normal ,surely equates to weird or queer. Yet they object to being called "queers" which is a factual definition, preferring to call themselves gay, which isn't. I am a gay, literally happy person. Most of them I have come across definitely don't suit that mantle. This isn't a rant based on homophobia but on misuse of the English language .

I can see what you mean TB ... just what is the correct terminology to use when reffering to other genders or those of differing sexual tendencies ,,, being called a puff to some may cause offence where as saying a raving brown hatter may not (i dont like the word queer ) ,,, i think its down to the manner and atmosphere in which its said .... i for one am certainly not honophobic ,, still wondering how the land lys ref same *** marriage tho ..

Well as my wife knows the registrar in Udon I rang him with your question. Answer . The official , with Amphoe ceremony , a definite NO.With the Monks. Although against the teaching of the Buddha, some temples may go through the marriage ritual, some won't however, mainly those of the Forestry sect are against it .
How much sin sod are you offering? :-"

Leave It to Beaver and Ozzie and Harriet were normal back when I was a kid. They'd be anything but today. At the same time, my very Catholic parents and grandmother tuned in anytime Liberace was on TV. He lived only a few miles away. My mother was a telephone operator (early 60's) and had to make the physical wire connections for long distance calls. I heard her often tell my father that she had placed long distance calls for Liberace. Did she listen in? (she could easily). Did she know his inner secrets? (I'd guess so). She still watched his show faithfully over the years.
Times change. Anyone notice how the US military is still holding up despite allowing gays to serve? Where's texpat when we need him?

Dear Mash

I know this will come as a great blow to you (we've had some of those, haven't we? ;) ), but I really can't go through with the marriage. You see I'm already spoken for and I must confess, my motive was really the scrumpy. Please forgive me.

Love Brian
