I started holidaying in Indonesia in the late 70's untill the early 90's, I went there every year at least two times per year, each trip never less than one month, I traveled from the southern tip of Java to the north tip on the west coast over the years well off the beaten path surfing, I have worked in Vietnam, India and spent a lot of time in Cambodia, what you are saying is a load of sh-t.

Coxo i am jealous, you were living my young dream way back then, I loved to surf mainly down the south coast NSW and always wanted to travel and surf but got caught up in a bloody apprenticeship and playing league and cricket. I started travelling though with a later work life and worked in Ghana, Saudi Arabia , china, Vietnam, thailand and singapore and lately PNG. All for long term projects eventually settling in Vietnam for a bout 8 years. Way down south in Bach lieu with my latest house.
Was a good way similar to your journey to learn different cultures and spot so called scammers way off. Not all scammers have the vertical smile between their legs.
Thanks for the surfing memories.

Maybe we can get them a free ride to the airport from you.

G'day Maaka and Barney, great subject surfing and travel. I ended up spending most of my time in West Java at a place called Pabluan Ratu, great right hander, rare in Indo, got good waves at Pangandaran and a place called Batu Karas in central java and Pacitan in east java, didn't come across Moose that I know of. Great times and good people. Barney I did a job in Vietnam on the Con Dao Archipelago a few years ago, great place and surf have you been there? Where on the south coast did you surf? I spent 20 years at Merimbula, still got a few acre's there and my shouse (shed from the outside, house from the inside). As you say with the scammers in Asia, most have white skin and round eyes and post on UM! I'm heading to PNG or around New Britian Island in August for a few weeks fishing, should be good, might take deezer and jai yen yen along for bait!

Slightly off topic now but Actually do not think I will lose it all in Thailand as I already lost it all by getting old and ceasing the young surfing lifestyle. Grew up in engadine in the 70's and once we got our license would head off on weekend surf trips with a loaf of bread a can of bake beans and a can of ricecream for dessert and surf anywhere from Garie to Ulladulla. Winter was best, start a fire on the beach at daybreak, surf for a few hours then warm by said fire. Great no care stress free life.
Can Dao never been there but lived and worked in Vung tau and Phu My for some time and built my first Vietnam house there. Can Dao I think was a penal colony for the french to send the vietnamese bad boys against colonialism. Big mistake by the french, the vietnamese took over the island and killed them all , the beginning of the vietnamese march to victory.Remeber learnign some of the histroy.
Good luck with the fishing in PNG. Heard it is good. Take DEEZER AND jAI YEN YEN but not as bait. I am sure they are good blokes and would have some terrific stories over a beer at night on the boat deck.

Actually it is a pit bull that really won't let go, great dogs they are but I will let go now with one last comment for you. I have related all of our discussion on this topic to my wife, her comment was, He needs to wake up. That says it all I think, could have saved me a lot of typing. Peace and happiness to you.

Have to agree with you jai time to let go as it has turned into a slanging match like all post's tend too. My last post on this subject too. Everyone has an opinion and is entitled to voice it if you don't like it or it isn't your view ignore it, there is no need to have a go because you don't agree you have your opinions of Thai trust and honesty as do we.

Life is full of losing things OP, whether it be in Thailand, or Alaska, only to then find something new..how else would we learn from our mistakes na kap

I am moving permanently to Udon Thani from Africa in December, and I am (was...) looking very much forward to living there. But after reading many of the posts on the udonmap forums, I get almost depressed and wonder whether I have made a huge mistake by moving to Thailand. Yes, every country has its problems and issues but so far, I have met mostly friendly and helpful Thais, and I appreciate that. It would be nice though if there were more positive comments about the country, as if all was as bad as stated by many, surely most people would want move to another country? Or are things really THAT bad in Isaan?

The request for a sin sod payment would have been the only red flag that I needed to prompt me to run in the opposite direction. Just last month my wife and I were asked to help out a 73 year old Aussie guy who had fallen head over heels with a 49 year old school teacher who had three adult children, a 2 million baht debt against her mother's house and a new loan on a 1 million plus pick-up truck. She was trying to railroad the poor guy into paying a huge sin sod to her mother "else her mother wouldn't allow her to see him anymore". How many guys come here and get suckered into paying sin sod out of pure ignorance of the traditional rules?
Colossians 2:8-10...See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, which are based on human tradition and the spiritual forces of the world rather than on Christ. For in HIM dwells all the fullness of the GODHEAD bodily; and you are complete in HIM, who is the head of all principality and power.

I live my life by gut feelings and i always take notice of these feeling i ignore at my own peril.
My girl friend i have been with for two and half years and the same as Paullovesold fords mentions she is lovely but i do notice a dark side so i am very wary .
Having said that my ex a english lady attempted to to cheat me out of a house in 2003 i will not bore you all with the details but i had to fight to get my share , once a lady Thai english or what ever has set her mind to dump you and head for better things you need to be on the ball and she will not consider you at all .
I hope things come right for you Paulovesoldfords i know how you feel so your not alone and you will not be the last.
