Seeking members from Kut Chap

Post by Stevie-J » June 5, 2013, 9:21 pm

Hi all

I am in the process of spending a good deal of my time in Kut Chap and would like to meet fellow fallangs. I would also welcome advice and some guidance on a number of issues.

Can anyone advise of a good hotel or hotels that cater for disabled in or near Kut Chap?
I take a fair bit of medication. Is it relatively simple to get a doctor, get medication etc?
The house I will be moving to needs some work. Can anyone recommend a reliable builder?

And I am sure there are many more questions.

I am hoping to be out again in the next two months for a couple of weeks and depending on how much I can sort out, I hope to live between UK and Kut Chap month in month out.

I am contactable at steve-manning@live.com and I will make every effort to visit this forum much more often. I also use skype.

Anyone that can help...I really do appreciate it.

Hi Stevie-J

There aren't any 'Hotels' or 'Guest Houses' in or close to Kutchap, just a few, as they call them, resorts (one room bungalows) but I wouldn't expect them to be too wheelchair friendly if this is what you mean by disabled. Guess the nearest hotel is the Napolai which is on Pracharaksa Road just inside the ring road from the 2263 Kutchap Road.

Website for The Napolai is http://www.napalaihoteludon.com maybe drop them a mail see if they have ramps etc.

Doctors are easy enough to find, there are international hospitals in Udon which are of a good standard. Kutchap has a hospital too but don't hold your breath getting specific meds from them. They couldn't even plaster the wife's leg when she broke it.....

As for builders, there's plenty in the village, I've used many of them and have usually been satisfied. Guess it depends on what needs doing to the house but I'm pretty sure we could help find someone to do the work.

Hey Chriss
Thanks very much for this info. I will report back about the hotel. I guess I am seeing whether there is one closer to Kut Chap than the Seam Grand in Udon.
Its good to read about the international hospitals and numerous builders too.

I understand Kut Chap is quite a big area. The address I have is;
Tan Lian.
District Julian Tan.
District. Kud Chap.
Province Thailand.
41 250.

Cheers

Steve

You can buy prescription meds over the counter as long as they are not in the "controlled substance" types. Lots of pharmacys in Udon, if you already know what you are going to need, you just buy it yourself

I'm just off the road between KC and Udon. Much closer to Udon, though. Feel free to PM me when you are around. I can help out with much of what you posted. I don't mind helping out if I can. I can only suggest what others have/will suggest about the medical stuff, though. I highly recommend Bangkok-Udon Hospital over anywhere else for a plethora of reasons.

Chriss is right about the Napolai. It is as disabled friendly as you're going to find. However, if you are going to stay for a month, there are two long-stay "apartment" buildings near the Napolai which offer a much better value. I stayed at one while building my house in 2010. I think I paid 5-6k /month back then. Very nice, clean, and has a lift. Not many food places or other necessities nearby other than 7-11 though. It's near the Windsor window factory.
Enjoy this site much more by adding idiots to your ignore list (Friends & Foes tab).

You're correct Stevie Kutchap is a large area, the main "High Street" for the want of a better term is some 24 Km from Udon itself on the 2263. Tan Lian is about the same distance again going further out. If I remember right it's more in the hills up there, only been there once for a wedding.

Thanks Guys very much.

I am getting really confused now as I thought the road was Tan Lian. I took the house number out of the address. I thought Julian Tan was the district in Kut Chap????
Are addresses written differently in Thailand?

In the mean time I will check the address again. Maybe it is an address used for postage i.e a postage pickup point.

Hi Steve,I stay in Tan Lian most weekends (g/f's family). It's about 16k from the Kutchap high street carrying straight on,on the road from Udon.
I believe there are a few farang there but you never see them as there is nowhere to go there.
I don't know of any builders and don't want to ask about as I wouldn't want to put you on a bum steer. If you do find one send me there name and I'll ask my g/f if she knows of them.

Hi Steve
I live closer to Udon than Kud Chap
as for postal addresses thai does not translate to english the same each time
my village jumpa is spelt sometimes with a q and the sub district Chaing yuen has multiple spellings which makes the mail very unreliable apart from written in thai

There appears to be an acute lack of accommodation in and around Kut Chap, I know it is only a small town but I am still surprised that there are no hotels or apartments for rent. The few resorts I found I think are mainly used as one night stand knocking shops, when approached for long term rentals the owners would not budge on their 500bht a night rent, 15000 a month is way over the top, it seems they would rather see them stand empty as they seem to do very little business.
On the other hand Udon is awash with apartments and hotels, can get a new apartment, 5mins out of town, with Aircon, Bed, TV, Wi-Fi and Fridge for 3000 a month.
Kut Chap is also in desperate need of a decent eating/drinking establishment, not much variety in the local restaurants and odd trading hours, Tesco's and 7/11 the only islands in the desert.
Maybe there is more but I've not found it/them yet.............

Maybe, just maybe the residents of Kutchap, falangs included, don't wish it to turn into a mini Udon.... It's nice to have the little touches of the western world, a small Tesco's, 7-11 and a few ATM's but IMO thats enough thank you.....

Kut Chap is an Amphur in Udon Thani province. Tan Lian is a Tambon in Amphur Kut Chap.
The last four lines in your address will be:
Tambon Tan Lian
Amphur Kut Chap
Udon Thani 41000
Thailand
The first three lines will be your name, house number and street, then mooban.

Kutchap has developed a heck of a lot over the last 6 years.
It wasn't that long ago there was no Tesco, 7-11, Banks / ATMs etc, further toi that there are many new resort, restaurants a new market being built. Buildings that cost 700k 6 years back are now over 3 million. What used to be "look there's another farang" monthly experience, is now a daily occurrence. Its definitely a place on the up.
Many resorts are not interested in long term customers as short time rooms can get 2 or 3 customers per night. A "proper resort" isn't likely as no market exists.

What I, in my selfish opinion, think it needs now, is a night time open air bar / restaurant (Korean BBQ style) that will show the EPL :D as many in the area are out of cable reach so cant get it.

I am moving there (Kut Chap) from the US with my wife and two kids to finish building our house. Know this thread is very stale dated but always looking for decent people to befriend in Kut Chap. Our build is about 7-20 minutes West of the 7-11. Also looking for a house to rent, in case anyone knows of one, starting this Sept. for any duration between 4-8 months. Can't bear to stay with the extended family under my heals on a daily basis :-)
