In December he met her online.
3 months later he arrived to marry her, having never previously met.
And then things started to deteriorate.

Hardly an Issan scam, more a case of farang stupidity.
He lost half a months wage and got a slap on the face for it

If this story is true because it sounds to clinical in it's operation right down to the hundreds of well wishers at the wedding and the subsequent rejection by the family on his return. Sounds like the Thai's have escalated this to a whole village and the local monks scam, free food and a share of the spoils each time a new buffallo fronts up for the marriage.

Her thai husband or BF must be angry, now he knows he will not get a future share of the 40,000 TBHT per month.

Funny how the thais never have a care for the loss of face to others.

The sad thing is that "giving face, getting face and saving face" all take priority over matters of conscience. The big mistake that we Westerners make it to assume that the Thai moral compass is the same as ours. Their concepts of what is right and what is wrong are not to be compared with ours. It's just not the same and we will never understand it!

I have nothing against the French , generally very nice well mannered people ,,, have several CC customers who are French ,,,, alas this fella must be a total dipstick ,,, and there are those in every nation ,,

From what I see in the last part of the article, it would seem that the Thai also fall victim to such scams. Is it somehow OK if it is a Farang doing the scamming?

Guys we have all been had in one way or another till we learned the ropes. I call it the white hat syndrom, we are going to save them and they will love us forever. Doesn't take long to figure out they don't need to be saved. I bought a lot of cell phones my first year

Make up was the other thing. I finally started repossesing the cell phones and the make up and gave them the standard bar fine.

How many of us are still helping the family? I do.

Now just how poor are most of these families, own the their own homes,. no mortgage and farm land. Believe that is more then I had when I first got here.

In my case the wife is a orphan as is her brother, never have owned anything of value. Not sure they ever will have. But I'm giving them a fighting chance with the farm. Their is an Auntie that raised them she gets help when she needs it. Hardly ever asks.

Just cause you teach some one to fish, doesn't mean they want to go fishing.

Moral standards are not the only thing we don't understand. They were happy without the latest cell hone, color T.V and car before we came along. In my case I live at the standard I'm happy with. Far beyond anything the wife ever had before.

So in the end they see a constant money flow, do they understand it no not at all, for the most part.

Teaching the brother an accounting system simple one, is next to impossible. There is no way he will survive with the mushroom business with out it. You have to plan a minimum of one year in advance. It's constant re buying new product. If you don't do that you will be broke in six months. He still does not understand personal money and farm, money mixes them together. So in the end he has no clue of what he as earned or lost, nor why.

I can and do raise hell with him about it. He smiles and say yes the only word he knows in English.

So maybe I'm teaching him to fish. But in the end might not mean a thing. At some point I will either die or say I have had enough. In the meantime I live they way I want. That I'm not letting go of, for the brother or anyone else.

Internet dating this isn't the first time that hasn't worked out here or any other country that you can do it in.

So considering what he earns he got off cheap. Most of us have already been through WBU and we were just as foolish as this guy, in our own ways. Me I have stopped helping Newbies, they got to pay their class fees.

Remember Tina Turner what's love got to do with it. Takes time to find out how the game us played. When you have things the way you want it be happy. Let the ohter guy learn from himself. I can imagine the cops had a good laugh on this one.

The one thing that has really surprised me it happens to Thai guys as well.
