Air Conditioning Units
We went with a Vendor in Nong Han that carries several brands of split units. I will PM you the info if you are interested.

My experience. You can buy cheap and get cheap. Many of the cut-rate vendors are selling old inefficient models....many with the very large ceiling mounted fan unit. It may cool your room, but it will use more power and make more noise. It also may lack much in the way of dehumidification options. If those things aren't important, then no problem with going cheap. If those things are important, I'd suggest going to one of the bigger brand name vendors around town....Samsung, Daikin, Carrier, etc. You can search 'Nimit' (without the quotes) for several threads dealing with that particular dealer.

I might have missed it in one of the older threads but does anyone have an address to Nimit?
We may have all come on different ships, but we're in the same boat now

Repair and Customer service are important also. We purchased a new Samsung Unit down town and had it installed in the house that we were living in while our house was being built. It developed a refrigerant leak. We waited two weeks for the Samsung customer service truck to show up and fix the unit.

Just to clarify, I didn't say cheap I said Best Prices. I seem to recall monhs ago posts recommending a local supplier who beat all the big retailers on prices on a 'like for like' basis and also offered a comprehensive after sales service.

This a bit off topic. Inverter air conditioners are the most efficient technology available. Whether they are worth the higher price is debatable.
They work by converting AC electricity to DC power and use DC to run a variable speed compressor motor. I predict that in the very near future solar powered air conditioners will become very common. Solar panels produce DC power and the need for air conditioning is the highest during the day in bright sunshine. Using solar panels eliminates the need for an inverter. This is a perfect application for solar systems.

I'm no expert on ACs....but my experience living in the jungle: we had an old style (large ceiling unit) ac that we used to cool our bedroom and sometimes our living room. The AC cooled adequately but: it hardly removed any moisture from the air; when the compressor kicked on, our power dipped sufficiently to make my computer ups go into red cycle for a few seconds; our power bills averaged about 2300 baht over the course of a year; the interior fan was noisy (always....from when it was new).
We swapped out the old style ac and put in an inverter. The inverter removed about 4-6 liters of water per day during the rainy season; our power never dips when the compressor kicks on; our power bills average about 1800 baht over the course of a year; the interior fan is whisper quiet; the interior unit is 1/2 the size of the old monster.
Yes, the inverter cost more.....but it's the sort of thing that I kick myself in the pants for..........not replacing the older unit sooner.

Solar powered air conditioning. Solar panels connected directly to the A/C external unit. Power supplemented
with A.C. from the mains when solar not available.
like this...
http://www.securusair.com/
If only it could feed power to the grid when the A/C is not being used.
