Beer Price Rise - Over 10%!!

Was in old Big C yesterday,still no stock Leos/Chang/Heineken only Carlsberg Seems to be taking a long time to finalise what prices the supermarkets will charge

NeeSoon Nadee had a LOT (many, many cases) of Chang, Leo and the like yesterday, but there were no prices posted like they usually do, so could not tell you the price.

Went to buy some Leo for the karaoke yesterday here in KK. Makro had none but we nearly always buy from the local woman who beats Makro by 3 baht a box. Was 492 a box. I want to give the local people a go.
I had been 3 days earlier to check stock and Leo was 550 a box saying i would be back. OK so be it, the tax has come in. But today just those 3 days later she wanted 580 a box. Got my girl to sit down and talk business. Explaining nicely we always use her shop and she should look after us as a business customer who has a minimum monthly purchase and advising her the gov't tax has not gone up yet. We actually buy a small amount which is about a minumum of a pallet of leo a month, sometimes 2 pallets when the local boys are not restricted by buddha, plus all the other whiskey cigaretes etc etc. Both my girl and her seemed uncomfortable talking bluntly especially when i said more as a joke perhaps as a permanent buyer we should ,when the prices settle back to a real level, set monthly prices and just allow for normal rise and fall pricing.
She was in no way interested and quickly explained with her land of smile face the price rises were not due to the tax but just supply and demand as the main suppliers are not releasing products hence the price rise. Whether i believe her or not doesn't matter, they are just being business people and have simply put the price up. Doesn't mean I have to shop there any more in the future either.

Was in Nutty Park earlier, and was pleased to note that Peter (Aussie Bar & Rest) still has Leo at B55 and B120 with Pork Roll.......I paid B70 in another Udon Bar last Friday for a small Leo.
Nice to see a guy who doesn't take the opportunity to rip his customers off ..... =D> =D> =D>

May be Pomps, but this one had charged me B110 for 2 x Leo the previous week and now B140 with no notice on display to let you know the price of the drinks. The boss lady actually looked surprised when her usual tip did not get left

i must be mad i'm still selling large leo for 70 baht thats with the price increase.maybe i should hire one dolly bird so double the price too. we have comfortable seats,music,free wi-fi just waiting for the 143 channel cable to be installed so we have the sports for you guys. oh yes forgot some of the finest food in udon to boot.....now just need a dolly bird here so i can start saving up for that new fortuner

The wife and I had lunch at a Thai restaurant on Monday. The menu had not been changed, BUT the servers did advise us before we ordered of the new prices. Another of my pet peeves here in LOS, lack of attention to detail that infers laziness. It only takes a few moments to put some stickers over the old prices on the menu, and cost is certainly negligible.

Griping aside, this restaurant deserves a mention. The name on the sign outside, in Thai, says "mom and pops", according to my wife's translation. It's located on the road behind old Tesco that runs parallel to the ring road, anchored on one end by a wat and the other end by Udon Resort hotel. Large parking area =D> The place has outdoor, covered and uncovered dining, plus two indoor air conditioned rooms, clean toilets, and good food. A "moat" surrounds one of the dining areas and has some very large fish swimming around. Sorry, no photos, and the place is worthy of some.

He only rips off other bar names in close proximity, namely Aussie Burger Bar hoping to cash in on my good fortune and customers. Not a good Aussie attitude.

Interesting: all wines priced below THB 600/bottle (750 ml) have not been included in the recent tax increase.
I've read about it before, still I was happy to see it was real when we had to stock up again yesterday.

Tasty decision of this otherwise quite tasteless government.

Interesting thought Rob, but I think you will find that the "Aussie Bar" was in farang alley .....run by Justin.
He sold out to Dutch Jan who ran it until farang alley was demolished.
When he moved it to Nutty Park he changed the bar name to Beer to Far (to reflect his dutch origins no doubt) although the pool team was still the Aussie Bar Team.
BIB then had a bee in their bonnet about the word Beer being in a bar name so when it was taken over by Peter (and little Pete) they changed the name to "The Cavern" . Since then they have changed it back to it's original name and added restaurant to the name ....... (apologies if my memory is a bit off, but I'm pretty sure that was the order)

In the end .... does it really matter what any of the bars are called?
If there were 6 bars with "Aussie" in the title in Nutty Park (quite a common word in barnames around the world) and it attracted a few more Aussies into ALL the bars surely that is a benefit to everyone.

was justin's called the aussie pub? looked at google,way too many places called aussie bar,aussie pub,aussie sports bar and so on and so on.so back to beer prices,how much is a small beer in the aussier burger bar, formaly know as the kangeroo bar. so makro have it for 569. looks like the seller had me over at 610 baht

Statto, Justin and his Aussie Pub is a has been, faded away, I am talking about the present.

In the Aussie Burger Bar, we have customers confused with the two places. The two bars are only about 25 metres apart. Some A.B.B. customers are in my bar waiting for friends and they dont show up, so they phone them and their friends realise they are in the wrong Aussie joint, ie in the old Cavern bar(now called the Aussie Pub), so they come up to my joint, the ABB.

Some occassions my new customers phone me then ring again asking where I'm at, I inform them they are in the wrong Aussie joint and they quickly come up to my place. Also ABB customers are asking me WTF is that other bar doing with displaying Aussie Pub sign when you have been the ABB for over 3 years in the same spot, and the other bar put the Aussie Pub sign up 8 months ago, not really Aussie is it they say, hoping the other bar will attract my customers by mistake.

If the other bar was in soi sampan, Day Night or Nong Bua, no problem, but 25 metres is too close for my liking. I dont go along with that, 6 bars in Nutty Park called Aussie, too much confusion for customers.

oh i see the problem here. perhaps people might go to the aussie berger bar thinking it was the aussie pub.then people complain that they hear small leos are 55 baht,but you charge them 65 baht. i see the problem now. easy sorted,when a new customer comes in just ask them if there looking for the aussie burger bar or the aussie pub. all very simple take care of your customers and dont worry about what other bars are doing. and do try not to have conflicts with other bars.bitching about it won't change it,but might change peoples attitude towards you.
ADVICE be a better bar with better prices and you will have more customers. i sold cheap beer and spirits when i had a bar in nutty park,other bars were not happy,but i was not there to please other bars,i was there for my customers
