And for those who can't wait that long ......

REPORT: Southend 0-1 Scunthorpe United
Southend United suffered a 1-0 defeat at home to Scunthorpe United as they slipped to their fourth defeat in a row.

Chris Iwelumo’s second half header gave the visiting team all three points as Southend suffered a frustrating evening against stubborn opposition.

Blues started brightly with Michael Timlin flashing a dangerous ball across the Scunthorpe box which unfortunately evaded the Southend attack.

Scunthorpe found their feet in the rain soaked Sky Bet League Two affair and nearly took the lead through Sam Winnall in the 15th minute.

Iwelumo played a defence splitting pass which found Winnall with just Daniel Bentley to beat until a last minute intervention from Mark Phillips denied the striker.

Southend fought back with Kevan Hurst curling an excellent cross to Ryan Leonard at the back post who headed the ball into the surface giving Sam Slocombe an easy take.

Timlin tried his luck from distance with a powerful left footed drive in the 31st minute which had Slocombe sprawling across his goal as it flew wide with Southend looking to break down a resolute Scunthorpe defence

On the stroke of half time the home side came close again to taking the lead after Ryan Leonard’s deft flick from Ben Coker’s low front post corner went inches past the foot of the post.

Blues had the first chance after the restart after Hurst created space for himself before seeing his left footed effort rise over the bar from the edge of the area.

Scunthorpe made the breakthrough in the 63rd minute after being on the back foot for most of the game through Iwelumo.

Coker’s attempted clearance from Etienne Esajas’ cross fell right in the path of Iwelumo who simply nodded the ball home from six yards out.

Phil Brown used all three substitutes in a matter of minutes bringing on Barry Corr, Anthony Straker and Craig Reid for Cauley Woodrow, Michael Timlin and Ben Coker as Brown reshaped the formation.

Scunthorpe continued to be stubborn in defence as they looked to hold onto their slender and they nearly doubled it through Sean McAllister’s speculative effort which Bentley had to parry away for a corner.

With time running out Blues started to press more with Hurst stinging the gloves of Slocombe with a rasping drive from 20 yards out which the keeper could only parry over for a corner.

Southend United were unable to find an equaliser on a frustrating Friday night at Roots Hall Stadium with Scunthorpe making the journey back with an extra three points to their season tally.

Southend United – Bentley, Coker (Reid 74), Phillips, Thompson, Prosser, Atkinson, Timlin (Straker 68), Leonard, Hurst, Eastwood, Woodrow (Corr 68) (Subs) Smith, Reid, Corr, Straker, Clifford, Payne, Auger

Scunthorpe United – Slocombe, Dawson, McAllister, Mirfin, Canavan, Sparrow, Iwelumo, Esajas (Byrne 82), Hawkridge (Waterfall 90), Nolan, Winnall (Burton 71) (Subs) Severn, Burton, Waterfall, Howe, Byrne, Hornsey, Spencer

Macclesfield Town were beaten 1-0 at home by Alfreton and are winless after 8 games.Hyde United are still bottom after a 2-1 defeat at Kidderminster and are still 1 point behind Macclesfield.

Khon Kaen 1-1 PTT Rayong

A very useful point against promotion hopefuls Rayong. I expected KK to get hammered.

After last nights games in the Conference,Nuneaton go two points clear at the top after beating Hereford 2-1.
Previous joint leaders,Cambridge, were held at Alfreton 1-1.Chester won the Cheshire derby 2-1 leaving Macclesfield winless after 9 games.....Macc can look forward to playing Vauxhall Motors in the Conference North next season if they keep this form up ! :(

Torquay V Cheltenham
Scunthorpe V Plymouth

Town have won only 1 out of 7. A visit to the sea side is about the last thing that the team deserve. Terrible start to the season after there being a lot of confidence around pre-season that they had built on a reasonable display last year.
Plymouth either win (3) or lose (4) so should be a good test for Scunthorpe. They still only have 1 loss but 4 draws is keeping them in mid table.

In the Conference,Cambridge United are back on top after a 2-1 victory over Forest Green.
Previous leaders,Nuneaton, surprisingly lost for the first time this season 2-1 at home to Salisbury.
Luton moved to within 1 point of the play offs with a 3-2 victory over Lincoln in front of another 6000+ crowd.
And Macclesfield gained there first win of the season 3-2 over Woking, despite nearly squandering a 3 goal lead in the last 10 minutes. [-o<

I'm assuming the man otherwise known as "hsam" is on holiday otherwise I'm sure that Scunthorpes 1-0 victory over Plymouth would have been making the headlines on Udon Map ! 8)
Cheltenham were well beaten 4-2 at Torquay and sit just above the relegation places......Accrington Stanley lost again 2-1 at home to Rochdale and are bottom with just 1 point from 8 matches.
Chesterfield won 1-0 at Oxford and are now 4 points clear at the top of League 2.

Kenny,
Feel free to post yourself about Sarfend ;) I think youve got a dodgy manager in Phil Brown.....one good season at Hull in his whole managerial career !
This thread is for all the smaller clubs......Scunthorpe,Cheltenham,Macclesfield,Everton etc. 8)

There was a full programme in the Conference last night, including a meeting of the top two which ended with Cambridge United beating Nuneaton 3-0 in front of a crowd of 3,740 and going 4 points clear at the top.
Luton had a thumping 4-0 win at Woking and are now in the play off places.
Macclesfield Town won for the second successive game,2-1 at Barnet, and move out of the bottom four. However, one gripe from the Macc fans was that it cost 21 quid to get in to see a Conference game but only 15 quid to watch Manchester City in the League Cup.....probably goes some way to explaining the poor 1,179 attendance. I guess the man otherwise known as hsam is still recovering from his recent trekking holiday in Pakistan and fatigue is leading to him forgetting to post about his beloved Scunthorpes next important match ! :-"
Today in League 2.....Burton v Scunthorpe,Cheltenham v AFC Wimbledon......last night Sarfend salvaged a 1-1 draw against Bristol Rovers but it still leaves them without a win since 17th August.
Conference matches include Macclesfield v Welling and Wrexham at home to table topping Cambridge United.
