we need rain and lots of it...

Post by parrot » October 1, 2013, 7:24 pm

I learned long ago in Okinawa days, better to be prepared for a typhoon than not. At first hint of a typhoon, we'd buy out the class 6 liquor stores on base in the event we were confined to base because of the storm. Those days are gone.....now I recharge my cell phone, my kindle, my ipad, my led flashlights, and go feed the catfish.
We got an inch of rain at kilo 18.

I was expecting maybe one of the last heavy rains of the year and we got less than an inch. It sprinkled lightly all night and that was all. This afternoon the sun came out.

When I was in Taiwan in 1971 we did the same, a lot of liquor, ice and mix if wanted along with some candles and a new deck of cards to play poker. Also filled garbage cans with water to use in flushing toilets.

Believe n me guys you don't want to see what it really looks like when a Typhon in strength comes through here. The last big open that hot here place flooded for three weeks. Yes we have better drains now. But, they can only still handle so much water.

Then it floods, and the army comes out to give needed supplies to those who can actually stay in their homes, in boats. Th few dry hotels fill up instantly.

Be happy we getting a little at a time.

Looks like the rainy season is almost over. In the next 14 days the forecast has 13 sunny days and only 1 rainy day, and we have already had 3-4 sunny days with no rain. :D

For those of you planning a picnic anytime soon, it may be worth taking the weather into consideration. Maybe this storm will hit, maybe it won't. But as my girlfriend used to say, better safe than sorry.

I used the wisdom of Udon Map to warn the villagers of the last 2 storms.
Neither materialised resulting in another one of those "stupid farang" moments.

Saying nothing this time.

I think it is coming from the other way Bump.
Phnom Penh has had flooding over the weekend so I think it is probably that storm. I think that the Indian typhoon was moving into India away from Thailand...

Breakingnews >
Storm Nari to reach NE tomorrow

Published: 15 Oct 2013 at 13.45
Online news:

Typhoon Nari made landfall at Da Nang, Vietnam, about 6am today and downgraded to a tropical storm, the Meteorological Department announced in its advisory issued on Tuesday.

At 10am, the storm was about 250km east of Mukdahan province.

It is moving in a westerly direction at 15 kph with wind speeds up to 85kph at the centre and will soon degrade further to a tropical depression.

On Oct 16, the storm will become a low pressure cell over Mukdahan, Amnat Charoen and Ubon Ratchathani provinces.

More rain is expected over the Northeast and eastern provinces, particularly Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, Mukdahan, Amnat Charoen, Si Sa Ket and Ubon Ratchathani.

Between Oct 16-19 a rather strong high pressure system from China will extend to the upper part of Thailand. This will result in a temperature drop of 5-8 degree Celcius in the North and upper Northeast, the department said.
